Wow, are we still getting this comment in 2024?

No need to wait, you guys need to read the press release more closely:

Driver-focused and tech-forward interior with new steering wheel designs and interior trims.

The new design of the standard M leather multi-function steering wheel features a flat-bottomed rim, modified spokes, and a red stripe marking the 12 o’clock position. For the first time, an M Alcantara steering wheel is optioinally available with the same design and range of functions. A heating function is an option for both steering wheel designs.

How bad was the HK audio in the M4? I had read it wasn’t very good and hoped this LCI would offer B&W or. B&O audio upgrade. Saddened that it isn’t an option once again. I really didn’t want to rip the car apart to replace over a dozen speakers and upgrade the amp plus the $6k to $10k it will cost depending on equipment.

Also thoughts on losing laser headlights?

Now I’m contemplating if I pull the trigger and order or just wait a few years for BMW to hopefully fix these shortfalls.

It's not terrible but it's not great either. Probably on the lower tier for its class of vehicle.

It's fair for music and horrible for podcasts.

On iDrive 8 cars, it's marginally acceptable, but not good or great by any means. My understanding is iD8 has a higher-quality amp than iD7, so earlier cars may be even worse. I don't think anyone knows for sure yet what hardware is included with 8.5.

Totally with you, if there had been a ~$5500 B&W option, that would have been literally the first box I ticked on my build. I'm thinking about installing the Alpha One amp ($1600) and see if that's "good enough" or if I also have to start swapping speakers.

I wonder what you dislike in terms of podcasts. I often listen to podcasts on longer trips and actually found it quite okay.

I find it very muddy and find that it's hard to make out spoken words without turning the volume quite high.

When I jump into my wife's car with admittedly average Bose, it's quite a bit clearer.

Plenty of variety in the individual program, otherwise no.

I read somewhere on this forum that Laguna Seca blue is making a comeback on the LCI but I can’t find the link now.

It was someone that lives in Germany that posted a comment about it, but no actual proof has ever shown up. Until there’s proof, it’s still not available. It’s also NOT on the individualizer.

Have the orders opened for the M4 LCI in the US? My G82 was supposed to go into build in Jan24 but after much deliberation I decided to go with the LCI. Yes the headlights are bad but the only big negative.

I see the 911 discussion is bouncing around here. I wonder how many people have actually driven Porsches. I love them they are fantastic cars. When deciding on the M4 I drove the RSQ8, RS6, X5M LCI, M5, M8 and 911 GTS. The GTS was an amazing car, had fun launching it and driving it around. Fantastic interior, I expected a much louder exhaust sound but it was pretty tame. The GTS has an order time of 18 months, last year it was 24 months. I still preferred the M4, I think I need to look at a Turbo S or GT3 instead next.

Just for interest sake, The M5 and RS6 are about the same price as the M4 here and the GTS is $40k more

Cut the bass to prop up the mids for a podcast. Then you have Bose sound

Would be nice to go back to the 90's where you had preset settings on your EQ for different types of music. Because going into those settings for each type of music I'm listening to is kind of a PITA.

More to the point, the Bose in the Porsche's aren't that great, but even that doesn't require that type of tuning to be audile.

Does anyone know if we can fit the new steering wheel into pre facelift cars without losing the heating function? Apparently the heating function switch is on the I-drive now

Better off going aftermarket - a few of the vendors are already doing the new style

I was thinking about ordering LCI steering wheel for my G80, but:
- its probably not gonna be compatible if you have heating, since there is no heating button and it has to be operated from system

- they made the carbon version SO CHEAP, oh my god, I mean why:
https://prnt.sc/bbkhnvdm2Vlw

literally there is so much less carbon and they put piano black plastic on the steering wheel NEXT to touch buttons. Its gonna look like crap and be smudged 99% of time

Pre-lci steering wheels trim are 100% carbon, zero gloss black.

I drove 911s for over 25 years. For me they're perfection - luxury, performance, handling and German DD reliability. But their pricing and availability have turned into a nightmare.

You cannot compare base Porsche prices with base prices on any other car. Porsches are ordered a-la-carte, so the drive-away price for a well-equipped car is always much, much higher than where you start. My last 991 911 GTS Cab stickered at $155k. That same car is $205k today. And as you say, you're looking at an 18-month wait. My M4 vert stickered at about $103k. It's about 80% of the 911, for half the cost.
