Aftermarket Exhaust Question
Hey Guys,
I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to the mechanical side of cars. I just know how to drive them and buy them! I'm looking to get an aftermarket exhaust for my M3 One thing ive noticed is a lot of them require a secondary knob to control the valves opening is there any aftermarket exhaust that works directly with the M1 & M2 buttons ? I would prefer that setup I like my car as clean as possible. Another key fob ? meh Please let me know Thank you Appreciate you take the time to help! |

No aftermarket exhaust requires a valve controller to my knowledge. The stock exhaust has the ability to open/close the valves by configuring the exhaust to comfort/sport/sport+. In the sport and sport + setting the valves will be open, however, they’re not open 100% of the time. This is why some people choose to install a valve controller or manually open them to be open 100% of the time. This is one way to modify your stock exhaust to be “louder.”
I’ve kept my G83 stock, but am planning on adding a single midpipe on my G80 that is on the way. That seems to be the best bang for your buck to increase volume and tone while not resulting in any added drone. It appears a lot of people on here have done that as well. I’m with you, I don’t really want another fob from a controller, and I am perfectly happy with the stock adjustments of the valves opening and closing. |

Most exhausts on the market are valved; they work with the stock valve system (M1 and M2)
The stock valve system does not open the valves 100% (even with the stock exhaust); that's why adding a valve controller to any exhaust is common.
