about to order G80...which options are a must
So, I’m about to order a G80.
Definite options: : IOMG, MT, slick top Interior: leaning toward silverstone, could do tartufo. Orange might be too much. Any downside to silverstone? Easy to keep clean? Black is an option. Wheels: not sure about 18/19 or 19/20. Thoughts? Are laser lights worth it? Opinion on: exec pack, 360 camera, drive recorder, Not sure if I need exec pack, don’t care about auto trunk lid. Is sensatech dash worth it? For those that have had their cars for a bit, any changes you’d make in hindsight? Thanks |

To me, laser lights are a must for looks alone. I'd go Tartufo and full leather which makes the interior dramatically more upscale. Finally, the executive package is another must.
Basically, everything you won't be able to add to the car after the fact. Might as well know you'll never regret not ticking a box down the road especially when spending this amount on the car in the first place.

I’d get Executive package. Gives you HUD which is probably the biggest part of the Exec package. I’d go full leather to avoid the Sensatec dash.

Full leather (otherwise it’s the cheap textured plastic), laser lights (for looks), exec package(heated steering and heads up display are my fave), and parking assist (only $700 and the top down view and front view have saved my rims and lip so many times it’s worth it)

I live in New Hampshire so the the heated steering wheel was a must for me. Also. The laser lights are a must in my opinion as well and the last is the M drive professional.

100% without a doubt laser lights and executive package
Didn’t think I’d need m drivers for the upped speed limiter but it’s so easy to max it out in Mexico ofc I wish I got it Also preference but the full leather over extended while it did the bottom of the dash would’ve been nice but definitely not needed at all |

I never expected how much I would like the full leather. It really changes the car to be at another level. Totally worth it and not something you'd intuitively think.
The obvious ones are: - The driver assistance (any car you buy today must have this if you live anywhere that has highways), even if its a pleasure vehicle - Laser lights. Look awesome - Exec package - Parking assistance (just for the camera views) Things I got which I like: ventilated leather, drive recorder, carbon trim, shadowline trim, M-drive professional (for traction control control) Also, I know you want MT, but how important is it to have a manual clutch? Getting the comp and xDrive IMHO totally outweighs any nostalgia benefit of manual-clutch. You can still change gears manually withe ZF *and* 8-speed is also nice vs 6. In the end, no matter what, you'll love it, but these days I err on the side of more options. The only ones that I don't think are worth it unless it is a track car are the carbon seats and ceramic brakes. Last edited by sdengineer; 01-20-2024 at 02:26 PM.. IMO:
Must haves - Exec Parking Full Leather Ventilated Seats Last to go if over budget - Carbon Seats Nice to haves(in order of priority) - Laser Lights Shadowline M Drive Professional Drive Recorder Interior trim of choice Not worth it - Carbon Brakes M Driver’s Package IMO, the car feels very cheap without the full leather. And without the bucket seats, the car doesn’t feel very special. |

I think you meant Full Leather. Ext leather is only part leather and the rest is Sensetec (fake leather)

My picks for IOMG (and why):
-Full Tartufo (I’m a lover of SS and even IW, but brown looks sooo good with IOMG, they’re natural partners) -Laser lights (my #1 must have) -825M Bi-Colors (because shiny looks nice on IOMG, and 826 are impossible to clean.) -Black brake calipers (reason above) -CF interior (for the steering wheel CF) -Park Assist + Drive Recorder (bird’s eye parking and corner peek are high value, and $100 gets a drive recorder that works sometimes…so why not) -Mdrive Pro (just having Track Mode on the dash is worth it) Other thoughts… Depending on your wheel choice of bright or dark, consider: +Extended Shadowline Deletion (for the chrome exhaust tips and green side mirror caps. The tiny green trunk spoiler can be replaced.) +Shadowline Lights (if you like the eyes darkened to match darker wheels) -Carbon Exterior (not worth it, pick your own CF bits and grill. Better yet, paint your plastic black trim IOMG for a unique look) - -Red Brakes (don’t with green, it’s a clash. They get dirty instantly and nooks/crannies are a PIA to scrub unless you take wheels off. With tiny rear you want them to disappear anyway.)

Appreciate all the input
Here’s the build so far : https://www.bmwusa.com/build-your-ow...ebei85/summary Anyone pick the silverstone over tartufo? Easy to keep the silverstone clean ? Kinda dig the look of the non hex DRLs on IOMG. |

Add the exec package, the HUD is nice, but I love the power trunk, don't care how bougie it is.
Also get the buckets, the ventilation is nice in the summer (since I live in hell), but they don't hold me worth a crap when cornering. |

I have Tartufo with Boston Green Metallic and honestly any sort of green with Tartufo interior is just the best combination IMHO. I dont really see the need for full leather to be honest. I think the interior of these cars are already pretty good and full leather isnt a huge change but thats mostly just me. Executive Package i think is worth it for the HUD Alone but i'm pretty sure its also the only way to get the HK sound system, which while isnt amazing, i'm sure its leagues above whatever base level sound system these cars might come with.
Other than that i think most of everything else is really just up to if you want it or not. I personally really like the laser lights, they do a fantastic job at night and i think they just look really cool, kinda like the Porsche PDLS+. its just super nice for BMW and i think for 1000$ you really cant go wrong. |
