I am never parking my G82 in an airport lot. I have my truck for such things.

As most others have posted, if it is a short trip, I'll take another car and park it. Otherwise, some sort of car service to/from when the trip is more than 5 days because long-term parking costs have climbed up significantly to rival the cost and convenience of a car service.

I’ve done it a bunch but not since getting the g80. It’s super convenient but at my local small airport (BUR) there have been break-ins recently. Depending on the airport they might be parking outside. Better to just car service / ride share.

I did once for a daytrip at skyharbor. Packed shortterm meant I had to park here. I take my wife's Mazda now to the airport if I'm leaving it for a day or two.

I have always been a "take my beater to the airport" kinda guy when I am gone for a multi-day trip, but that's more because I'm worried about door dings and people bumping into my car with backpacks and suitcases as they're grabbing things out of their cars from the tight parking spots and trying to catch their flights than I am worried about theft or outright vandalism.

My M3 is not my daily driver. With that said, I will not even park my daily driver at the airport. I live in the Denver region which has the highest auto theft rate in the country and the airport is a big part of that statitistic. The price of the Uber is worth it to not have to worry about coming back to a vandalized or stolen car.

My G83 has limited truck space, so unless I’m on a overnight trip with my Louis carryon luggage, my F95 is my airport commute transportation. Uber doesn’t like driving out to my gated community and Charleston (CHS) is fine, considering I will have over 150 flights this year, it’s so much easier to drive myself. Uber would be OK if your a infrequent flyer, as it would be tough to fit 3 large checked bags with 2 carry on in a G83 and thus the F95 ZCP, especially when I return from a frequent European trip. Ubers are usually on the smaller side.

Not even sure why this question Needs to be asked? For any car you may own, why would the ide of bringing your own shit be swirling around in your head? With how easy it is for Uber/Lift whatever? Just the convenience of being dropped off and picked up right at the door should be enough to make that decision

The flex is real…Surprised the private garage at the FBO hasn’t been mentioned.

I used to park my E90 on shorter trips, it was great to just hop in and zip home. But I won't take the G80. Even excluding the possibility of damage, it's significantly more expensive.
For my 3-day trip earlier this week, roundtrip Uber Comfort was $147.55, including 20% tips and the surcharge for reserving the trip out in advance. Parking at the airport would be $326--$42/day, plus a $200 ticket for no front plate. And obviously my employer isn't reimbursing my ticket. Even if I had a front plate--I would buy a Sto 'n Show if I were actually going to park at the airport--it's still only $21 cheaper, and that's just not worth it. Add a 4th day and it becomes cheaper outright again. Last edited by geko29; 12-10-2023 at 07:25 AM.. |

This has been my exact experience at Skyharbor not matter how long you are parked there. People just don’t give a fuck and will be right next to you over the lines whether just there for a few minutes to pick someone up or parking for several days while on a trip. I’ve had a few times where I’ve had to enter in via the passenger seat in order to be back into my vehicle.

I parked my 2015 M4 at SFO several times a month and never had any issues when I lived there. Now I park my 2022 M3 at PHX several times a month and again no issues for the last two years. It’s covered, most cars also sit there for several days so not a lot of movement beside your car, and not having to wait for a car when you land is worth it.

Did it once 20 years ago in my newish 350z at short term parking at EWR and learned the hard lesson as did many other Nissan/Infiniti’s about their xenon lights being ripped out along with my aftermarket head unit. The airport “kindly” towed my car down a few levels since the front window was broken into. Not a chance I would do it with a car that I cared about again.
