Tuned G80 blows throttle body

Did a light/moderate pull, car chimed 10 seconds afterwards and lit up like a mf Christmas tree. Full limp mode. Rear diff locked warning, CEL, and the car wouldn't go past 1,200 RPM or go faster than 2 mph. Called a flatbed. At the time, I legit thought I blew up the engine. A private shop diagnosed and fixed it. Turns out all that the car needed was a brand new OEM throttle body. It's a $910 part + 8 hours of labor (bummer).

Mods: tons, but the drivetrain ones are:
-drop in air filters + charcoal screen delete
-catless dp
-catless R44 titanium exhaust
-DME tuning Stage 2 tune (pushing about 570whp on 91 octane)

Codes:
- 100227: DME throttle valve activation short circuit
- D35DC3: DSC signal (wheel torque drivetrain actual, invalid, transmitter DME/DEE/CCU
- 100229: DME internal fault (throttle valve activation)

Haven't heard of this happening to anyone else so I wanted to share and provide a data point for you guys. Shop Tech said that running higher boost + beating on the car is ultimately what caused it. My m3 is a 6mt and has 37k miles. I tuned it at 32k ish.

Wow that’s crazy! These cars are built to be beaten on. I’d say it’s a fluke. It’s not like the increase boost put pressure on the throttle body to break it.

Interesting … how tune or mods of any sort be a direct cause of the throttle body to fail? Im not expert but Im confused.

What physical damage did you see on the throttle body, if any?

Sounds like a catch all solution to a problem that likely impacted a small component of the TB.

Given that this is the first time such an issue is reported, it seems likely that it could be a matter of bad luck or a defective part

My G80 is bone stock and has been at the dealership for ~2 weeks after popping a check engine light. I just got off the phone after finding that all the tests BMW NA have made them run point to a failed throttle body. I'm at roughly 5k miles on the vehicle and it had performed normally until that point, and I never felt anything wrong.

They have it ordered and will swap next week.

I didn't pull them myself and didn't ask for them. The dealer had the car almost a month, was crazy. It's definitely fixed though. I went on a car club trip with a McLaren and some other super cars. It's definitely working well now!

The problem for mine was intermittent so they had some testing issue and I think had to get info and gear from Germany, as well as needing to order the throttle body and associated hardware.

(Sorry for the delay, haven't been on the forum in a bit.)
