I don't recall them ever saying any of these things. Particularly the last one, since the 2nd gen M3--which was the first M3 produced in any serious volume--was available with an Automatic.

Most likely because M performance models are base models with a more power full engine and possibly bigger brakes and that's about it. The full fledged M models have different model number (eg G20 vs G80), reworked suspension, cooling, drivetrain and many more things diffent... All of these are mostly invisible from outside, so the M exclusive appearances stuff (side mirrors, hood bump, quad exhaust... ) helped distinguished the difference with base models.

whatever. none of this makes sense. names became meaningless as manufacturers simply used them as trim levels and nothing more.

Which is why Hyundai had to go with N for their performance EVs. Just pick the next letter in the alphabet. M has a history.

Take all of this with a grain of salt:
BMW in the 90s: “we would never make a FWD BMW,” proceeds to make a fancy MINI… But iM3 sounds more like an Apple product than a BMW. Plus why the need for the i moniker when everything is electric? |

Gotta love how theyll happily spray "M" all over any car like Ron Jeremy on some dumb chicks face, but talk about using the letter "i" on and M and hes like - WHOA WHOA WHOA, dont u dare talk about the letter "i" that way!
I hate this guy ... hes always been a sellout.

Since BMW has stated they intened to get rid of the "Compeitition" moniker after the G series, I suspect the identifier will follow the same principle to identify an electric variant. M3 Electric, M3 Electrified, M3 Heavy (because it will weight 7000lbs). Something along those lines.

I would prefer to see that they would be a bit more loyal to their own proclaimed virtues instead of respecting strict tenet to their naming convenstions.
One of the strongest brands in the world, with a straight pedigree that launches a 2.6tons truck as its second only bespoke true sportscar, is not to be trusted in anyway. Again he says "no" we don't build a true sportscar. Apparently the market keeps asking for it, and they keep rejecting the idea. |
