Clunky noise starting in first gear
I'm experiencing a strange clunky noise at very low speeds (2-3mph) when releasing the clutch into first gear. The noise seems like it may be coming from underneath or rear of the car, possibly one of the wheels or near rear axle. It seems to happen infrequently, possibly just 1 time per any drive. It also seems (I think), to happen when I am turning the wheel to the right. ie, at a stop sign and then starting in first while turning right.
Does anyone have experience with something similar? Or guesses what it may be? At first I suspected clutch slipping, but I think that can't be it since it happens at very low speed in first gear only, and doesn't sound like it's coming from front of the car...So now I am wondering if it can be a wheel bearing, though I don't understand why it would happen more when turning if it's coming from a rear wheel. Is there anything I can check? The car has 30k miles on it, including probably 4-5 track days over two years. It had routine service 2-3 months ago for oil, brake, transmission fluid. I've recently changed to winter wheels 3 weeks ago, though I think it's unrelated to that. |

I convinced the dealer to change the rear differential fluid. So far I think that has resolved all of my clunking noises. The car has about 30k miles on it.
