No one will pass on a CF roof (very few anyway) but most will pass on a moonroof
I'm willing to wager that no potential used car buyer will turn down an M3/4 simply because it came with a moonroof - most would actually consider this an advantage.

A carbon fiber top has no tangible benefits other than to swoon a bunch of dudes at the local Cars & Coffee sausage party. No one outside of this demographic honestly cares either way, so it's really not a dealbreaker, like say the transmission choice or even the bucket seats..

I'm sure BMW crunched the numbers before they decided to offer a moonroof option and realized that there is indeed a healthy market for it. That to me is reflective of its future resale prospects.
I don't know a single person who has a used e92, f80, or f82 with a moon roof. So people are definitely avoiding it on the used market.

My guess is most used moon roof cars get sold to people not looking for an m3, but just happen to stumble over one in their price range when doing general used car shopping.
I bought a used e92 with a moonroof back in the days. Just sayin. There is no right or wrong answers here, just opinions.

Of course no right or wrong. But I’ll stand by my convictions that most would pass on the moonroof. I know I would…. It’s an instant disqualifier if the CF is available on the majority. That doesn’t make the sunroof lame or wrong, it’s just reality and suggesting otherwise is silly. And. It has nothing to do with quantifiable performance. It’s just trick and people who like badass cars like trick. If you don’t know what trick means then you’re really old or really young, haha.

This is no different than manual vs auto (yep, I did ) Manual always more valuable in the long run (of course the mechanics of the equation are vastly different…moonroof is less desirable despite the fact that it’s more rare). And this coming from a guy who has owned SMG and DCT cars.

Now, if it was the last car available? Sure.

This time of year - absolutely! In the middle of the summer - not so much.

So, I liked the look of the CF roof, but also thought that there would not be much difference in contrast with TB2. I also knew that I could mount my bike racks on the moonroof version. We are coming into this M4 from the Miata world, and the CFO requested (demanded) the opening in the ceiling. All trends were leaning towards the moonroof, and at the end of the day, we use it. Future negligible dollars are not worth the time and energy today in my world. It may only be my kids problem anyway. YOLO and you are dead for a helluva long time.

I like the slick top look, especially in the M3 bc of the carbon fiber. Of the vehicles I’ve owned with moon roofs, I’ve only opened them 3-4x a year so for me, it’s money wasted. My prior m2 comp was also a slick top.

It's free either way in Canada, is that not the case in the US?

It's a zero dollar option here in the US too.

If you will not use the moonroof daily then I would not opt for it. I wouldnt say it lowers the value, however it will lower your pool of potential buyers if you ever decide to sell the car as most buyers want the carbon roof. The carbon roof is one of the best M car features.

Yes, the CF roof is standard. Choosing the moonroof is the option.

My wife refuses to have a car without a sunroof/moonroof. And I am of the same mind. But...she also never wants to own an automatic transmission (DCG included). So this is the 3rd M4 ('16,'19 and now a '22) that were optioned with a hole in the roof and a 3rd pedal on the floor. We haven't had any problems with resale and...its what she/I enjoy. We both open the roofs, daily.

Btw...even if you dont actually open the roof, the glass still adds more light/openness to the cabin. That's my biggest issue with closed roofed cars. It feels so claustrophobic...

For me there's no way I'd get a moonroof. (Even if the roof wasn't CF)

Loss of headroom with a helmet on, potential moonroof issues down the road. The CF roof is such an awesome signature feature of the car.

I am considering a moonroof because it's nice for that open air feeling in a four-door. Have it on my e46.
I had an e92 zcp, And the carbon roof was cool however when I was inside the car I didn't care. It felt really closed in….

I keep going back-and-forth because I'll have carbon everywhere else on the outside of the car. I can't decide.

Love the moonroof on my dravit grey , the moonroof is larger than most and it’s nice to open it up while keeping the windows closed for fresh air..
totally personal preference… may get the roof wrapped black.

I take it you don't live out west where we have 300+ days of sunny blue skies per year? The opposite is true here.

I labored over this choice myself - The combination of good looks of CF with the rattle of prior moonroofs directed me to the CF... Hoping I don't regret it - But if I do I'll just remember this and get the moonroof on the next order - God willing we can all afford to make an next order.

CF only way to go. 1 it looks better 2 I've rarely if ever used moonroofs anyway

It's honestly stunning to see on a 4-door sedan
