Oh so that’s where they draw the line? After having already shamelessly bastardized the M? STFU

How did that English grammer rule go?

There is no i before M except after 3?

How depressing is this. We know this is just yet another classic "M"ism.

Never turbo, never SUVs, lighter, bespoke, etc.

It's also simultaneously an odd way of denying an inevitable future for the brand particularly if BMW finds itself in a form of motorsports with EVs

These are only speculations, but BMW claimed that "we're ready to embrace an all EV lineup already in 2030, so five year prior the EU limit date".

To be honest, if today we're driving such great Ms, we've to thank Markus Flash. He decided to keep the M3 all ice, he decided to develop the M2 with a manual g.box, he decided to develop the M3 touring, and was able to convince the Board to create it.....Van Meel is there just to add a battery on a pure driver's car, and make the M brand all electric. The end has already began two years ago....the abonimation XM is just an example of what to expect in the future.....and off course, if you take a look to the normal BMW lineaup, you find only boring/sad cars. Had the occasion to sit in the new 5 series......what a shame. Were's BMW going to?

Drama queen much?
What's wrong with the current M cars?
They proved to be the best driving cars in the auto industry compared to the other rivals.
What's wrong with the new 5 Series?

You've got that backwards. Going forward ALL full M cars will be "M Competition". There will be no more base.

A BMW USA representative told The Drive that BMW M is forgoing the "Competition" name in future model series but the standard M models will keep the Competition sportiness. So the M Division's model hierarchy will be as follows: BMW M models, M CS models, and M CSL models. That hierarchy won't apply to every single M model but it will be the standard moving forward.

https://www.thedrive.com/news/entry-...or-some-reason

I think I interpreted it correctly. Now this could also mean if the M3 / M4 is all electric for the next generation there would be no additonal naming. But I dont think that the next generation of the M3/M4 will be exclusively an electric powertrain.

Cool. That was the exact opposite of what I had read. I actually prefer this take, as it's simpler.

With respect, I appreciate the rumble of a 8 cylinder and whistle of the turbos over a full electric car. I may be old school but I feel like that is a better representation of a “race car” I’m not opposed to a hybrid. In my opinion I feel bmw is watering down the original experience of owning a “M car”

The horse and buggy people thought the same about Henry Ford and his Model T. The oil lamp people felt the same about Edison and his electric lights.

You're all over thinking this.

He says there will never be an iM3, he never said there will never be an electric M3.

XM happened. We're going to have an electric M3 in the future whether we like it or not.

Since when did M become so sacrosanct at BMW? They’ve been slapping these badges on just about everything with a painted body panel since the f gen. Smh

I’d like to see a hybrid M3 but not an EV. Please, god, no.

Make it a RWD turbo 4 hybrid S48 at 550hp and 3400lbs. I would buy that.
