Cup2s or SC3R

So Im about midway through my cup2s for the track and thinking about if I should go with them again, or try SC3Rs in a larger size.

SC3R would be 285/35/19 f and 305/30/20 r on my 963m wheels. I am not concerned about size difference cause I'm 2wd

Anyone have experience with them? I believe from the information i have reviewed they are a bit stickier than the cups but at the sacrifice of longevity.

I am not unhappy with the cups but the zL1 1LE at my track runs them from factory and he swears by them..

ThoughtS?

I have heard that they actually wear quite well. With the cost of sc2 especially with connect being mandatory and jacking the price up I think they would be something decent to try. I'm waiting for a compound to come out similar to Hankook RS4 in our sizes, that wear rate would make me a very happy camper.

I was a long-time RE-71R and just switched to Hankook RS4. Yes, they last much, much longer but they are pretty unpredictable and not nearly as much fun as RE71.

Once they are back in stock, I'm looking to move to the Goodyears - heard good things from the Camaro ZL1 1LE crew that is running a heavier & more HP car than us.

Of course I say all this as a F80 driver….

Well, as you know, i'd really love to give you my feedback but I couldn't get them up to temp enough to really review.

I dont suppose you'd want to buy my setup from me?

I cant use the rear tires but the fronts maybe. What size wheels are they on up front. Curious how they fit clearance wise.

I think they're worth a shot. There must be some kind of reason, Porsche delivers them as standard equipment, on their 992 GT3. Even though being Porsche, they are NA marked, similar to Michelin Star marked for BMW.

Porsche requests its rear sidewalls be a little stiffer to cope with the additional weight of the engine being rear mounted.

Well after a lot of consideration, im going to forgo the sc3r and stick with the sc2*

My rationale is because the sizes are not optimal for my wheels at 9.5" and 10.5" wide. I will be stressing the sidewall and feel the fitment will be suboptimal.

The sc2* are really working well, so Ive talked myself out of changing.

Are you going with s Cup 2s or the Star Marked Cup 2 connect?

On the topic of Cup 2 vs Supercar 3R, this comparison is great:

Excellent video! I'm curious how the MPS4S Star compares to the others in this video.

This really hammers home the strange popularity of the R888R. People love it except those who actually track. It's a well marketed tire. I don't personally know anyone who is fast who likes this tire, but I hear people recommend it on the internet all the time.

I imagine its simply that the R888r has been around for so long and many who love it aren't comparing it to modern day track alternatives.

It's so common to hear people talk about track tyres in comparison to road tyres, where even a poor track tyre will outperform a great road tyre (assuming someone can cobble together 2-3 fast laps).
If your R888r experiences are like this, well you'll love it.

One of my other main frustrations still is trying to compare well known tyres in Aus or Europe with what you guys get in the US. A good example is our Yokohama AO50.

It's the big brother of the AO52, and is the absolute go to tyre in all our race classes (where slicks are prohibited). Very hard to find comparative data on it.

FWIW, at the track I plan to run a 19 x 10.5 square setup with 305/30 19 Supercar 3R's all round on my G80 when it arrives.

Super interested in how you get this setup to fit. Keep us posted.

R888R got awful reviews for grip, having no audible indication that they are losing grip, and just letting go when loaded.

guy at my track replaced his NT01 with them and HATES them...no grip, loud AF, overall shitty performance...

I ran a set of R888R on my M2 because I got them real cheap with a special rebate and hated every minute of driving with them ! I guess there OK on light cars that are less affected by the compound tech..
