The threshold is adjustable, on the F80 you can use the bimmercode app to adjust it.

Since this turned into a flashing brake lights discussion I'll weigh in:

Almost every new GMC flashes the third (center) brake light 3 or so times when applying the brakes. Very annoying when in stop & go traffic.

To me it appears the M3 in those videos is hard braking and the lights are actually flashing.

I understand the illusion of flashing lights based on the flicker rate vs. the frames per second of the recording device. As someone said it's similar to rotating wheels that appear to stop or even rotate in the wrong direction due to difference in rotation vs. frames per second. One of the few physics lessons I still remember from twenty or so years ago is about stroboscopy. Google it, it's very cool

The G80 M3 camouflage has advanced to the next stage, with the production body underneath. Seen now are the production headlights, M mirrors, side skirts, wheels, exhaust. The production rear has already been leaked recently, as well as the front grille design.

90 percent is looking good, now just need to see the huge grill in final form (with the entire car) to make a decision.

Looking beefier and beefier from the side profile. The fenders are fully filled out, especially the rear, love the squat. M-mirrors and all. Can't wait to see that FRONT! Unveil this already BMW!

Looks very good...also the gap on the rear arches looks fantasitc for a stock car...but the gap in the front is huge compared to the rear...looks strange

That front gap is just like the ones on the F80's. The overall design looks great so far. I just want to see the front.

New wheels look much better than the currently F80 competition wheels IMO. I'd like to see them in silver or the two-tone machined finish but the design is a lot better looking to me.

I can't imagine the front grill looks all that far off the current new 3 series.

As a whole I'm liking what I'm seeing

No it's not. I even have this programmed/coded on my M4. When I brake hard enough, the rear lights will pulse and then become static. I've seen this tech play out in real time, and many fire trucks and buses use this pulse technology too.
I have this feature on my 2011 ZX10R

Light will pulse at initial brake engagement then static.

Flickers then static. Bright like a mofo!!!

I want a 3,000-word essay from BMW engineers as to why the F87 Comp and G80 mufflers sit so damn low.

You are in for a treat then - the latest spy shot confirm that they can.

The grill absolutely will match the leaked photos we've seen - that's 100% confirmed now - yet at the same time it will be much-ado-about-nothing in short order. If there's demand, IND or someone will sell a body colored insert for the lower half of the grill to make it closer in size to what people are used to. Simple.

Meanwhile, the rest of the car's aesthetics will be widely recognized as being as good or better than the outgoing model, and of course it will outperform the old one in every way too.

Liking what I'm seeing so far! Like that the cow udder/nut sack/etc. muffler is tucked away a bit more than that on the F80... overall, I really like how it's shaping up! Bring on the "gates of hell" grills!
