Lololol love that. However, my issue is not so much the look, though I'm not the biggest fan of the M4 (the M3 is marginally better), it's more that they decided to go bigger, significantly heavier, no DCT, and no manual on the comp. If they had gone the opposite direction, I could have gotten over the looks. But it's really just approaching the size of an M5 at this point, so I'll stick with me M2C and maybe go PCar next if I ever want out of my M2C.

All that said, this is making the M2C look more and more like a keep for a long time car.

If people were interested in the G8x but can't stand the front end, knowing this aftermarket bumper is available will definitely push them over the edge.

Initial thoughts:

-grill not as bad as 4 series
-REALLY Surprised with weight, thought it was supposed to be under 3800 lbs, so the AWD version will be right about 4,000 lbs, so much for being the lightweight against Audi and Mercedes. Sure the new Merc will be a pig, but Audi RS5 is 4,000 lbs as well and looks nicer (sadly short on power)
-increase of torque a big surprise vs X3MC, 442 vs 479, thats a pretty huge increase!
-wonder if that extra 37 lb torque helps eliminate some of the turbo lag the X3MC has, doubt it.
-Isle of Man Green, could be interesting, orange interior
and thats coming from someone with sakhir orange right now (much nicer orange, closer to red, really wish M3 was going to have that).
-yellow, not for me, but glad they offered it. Baby blue interior
why not a dark blue like 8 series or even a blue to match blue exterior, I mean what combo will that baby blue really go with?
-love the carbon fiber interior, especially now having it on steering wheel.

overall really disappointed with interior color options, hate to go with boring black, but the rest just doesn't look good, Mercedes and Audi have much better options.

really think I will pass on this generation, maybe wait 3-4 years and see if they change anything, no clue what to get in 2 years when my X3M lease is over, maybe used M850i (I think its the same length as this thing but looks better and has a V8 with more power).

AWD, carbon fiber exterior and carbon fiber bucket seats maybe $85k to $90k. Any higher, it's going to be a very hard sell.

They are also a direct fit for Weber grills. Dual purpose, can cook up some tomahawk steaks.

My X3MC was $85,000 fully loaded and thats without CF exterior or special seats.

M3/M4 with those options will EASILY be over $90,000, my guess is a "fully loaded" M3C with AWD carbon fiber ext and seats $95,000

Interesting X3M and M3 starting price is the same EXCEPT X3M includes AWD and automatic. M3 price is for manual and RWD. So those who want AWD and auto, its probably going to add $5,000, meaning M3 really starts $5,000 more than X3M. interesting considering a M340i xdrive and X3 M40i are about the same price (think X3 is a bit more).
Also note a X5M starts higher than M5 (with auto and AWD), so whats going on with the M3 vs X3M?

You're not getting it, it's for people that want everything but the front end of the G8x.

Being different doesn't have to be ugly. Change doesn't have to be ugly either.

The competition M3 starts under 73k (72,800) so going to be hard to add 30k worth of options without a bunch of individual paint and interior bits

Doubtful, in a surprise move the M3 is priced lower than an x3m, competition M3 starts at 73k so apples to apples should come out around 5k less than an x3m. maybe 3k less with xdrive next summer.

You can build a F82 M4 Comp fully loaded on the bmw site for $95k. Depending on what the AWD premium is, there could be some builds above $100k. Most won't get there, but it will happen. Get some popular options with individual color...$90k+ (easily if ordering $8k carbon ceramics).

Right if you add tons of individual options, custom paint, and ccbs price can go nuts but the point was apples to apples with a loaded x3m (which are going to be the majority of cars)
Competition
Executive
Parking/Driver assist pro
Ventilated Seats
You are looking at around 80k vs an 85k x3m

I agree, so it's good the new car isn't ugly and the change is welcome to people like me, who are bored of all BMW M cars looking the same, and are now going to buy the car.

People don't like change, but are often fickle and easily swayed by the mass opinions of others, all it takes is a few people that matter to change their mind, or say they like it, then opinions change again; it's common on social media as saying the popular opinion will get you likes, you see it in fashion & sneakers a lot, and we'll see it here as well once people see it for real.

Maybe I'm wrong and you'll always hate it though, sorry if that's the case, as that's a shame, but I can't wait for mine!

Id guess they cut out the carbon strut brace because they were angling hard to get the M3 starting price under 70k...the competition trim costs what i expected(feared lol) the base M3 would start at

In all seriousness, I think that's the result of the drunk-quarantine-home-office remote design effort.

I guess I'm not the audience for the new M3/M4... 140kg heavier than last gen, bigger, bulkier, more expensive, lower reviving, no DCT option, uglier... and the M Performance parts? What were they thinking?

So glad I got my hands on an M2 Comp. Maybe the next M2 will impress but this is just a bloated and overpriced boat of a car IMO and doesn't bode well for the future.

Having said that, most of the car's problems are due to design, regulations and technology overload. I feel like the mechanicals and everything related to the driving dynamics appear to have had a lot of focus. I feel sorry for the engineers who worked on this to have their work somewhat overshadowed by everything else that appears to have gone wrong this generation.

On the plus side:

Bucket seat options
Handsome interior
Ability to turn off Rev matching on manual (they listened)

Looking forward to hearing how it drives but so far I am thoroughly underwhelmed.

This is the biggest surprise for me as well, also the non comp gets around 37lb less than the X3M non comp, yet both have the same peak power output.

In terms of boost threshold, the S58 doesn't have much boost below 2.5k, this new tune they have done sets the peak torque higher so it'll depend what it gives below that will be interesting to see.

The torque on the comp comes in later and ends sooner, giving max power from 5.5k-7.2k just like the non comp F80 M3 did and that engine was very flat and not a joy to rev due to the flat top end (even if it was effective) the S58 in the X3M loves to rev and rewards revs, so this is a strange decision, will be good to see the power charts when they release them.

I've been watching some of the press videos and have a couple more thoughts.

The rear bumper design is funky and juts out a good amount. From certain angles there is an unfortunate "Camry dent" situation going on.

And the front end with the carbon package is so much better looking than the standard. I still don't really like it overall, but it really breaks up the front end in a good way. The standard mesh intake makes the "mouth" area of the car look like one big awkward and squashed piece.

I feel the same way on the intakes...any way you can get just the carbon intakes and not the rest of the carbon package?

I think it lost all its elegance. Feel like they should offer a tone-down version of it.

Do we know if the non-comp version is a bit more tone down?

Feels like an M3 Type R, even more so when you add that ridiculous quad exhaust and wing.

Those new M4 Side Vents are as dysfunctional as BMWs 4-Series Design Team..

The car is also super heavy.. Actually this seems to be the new M6..
Let's just hope the next M2 remains small and gets lighter..
