What a jumbled fzcking mess this thing is.
F80 will still depreciate like a rock. Performance should be awesome. But my wallet won't open for this thing. Actually makes me sad. It's the right size and performance and price for what I want but I just can't get in to the look. |

That fake vent hood is just an abomination. I've been doing my best to give this car the benefit of the doubt, and don't hate the big grills. I've always felt like the grills were going to make it a car you needed to see in person to really appreciate the styling, but honestly that early 2000's fake vent mustang hood has fucked that all up. I really am not excited about this car and BMW's design language in general. Someone needs to take the damn pen away from Hooydonk, he is clearly drunk.

Quote:
World economies and macroeconomic factors are what drove the increase. If you look at the same years, car sales were at their absolute peak across all brands. The controversial 7 was a precursor to the great recession, the bubble was being formed. Making a comparison between percentage of market share for this model's competitors through each generation would make much more sense if trying to determine a particular model was more successful or less successful. The big issue here is that with this radical design change, we are also heading towards a simultaneous market correction, and the brand's previous growth driver (China) is now being impacted the most in the current climate. We have already experienced the largest YOY decline in vehicle sales (larger than the great recession), and that was during a tremendous time of economic growth (2017-2018). Compound that with the fact that we have had enormous market corrections in 2020, the fact that less people are buying cars, and that this design change seems very radical, we may not see the same results as we did with the controversial 7 series. I think there are several factors in car sale trends that would not apply to the typical new M3/M4 buyer here, but I do think one factor that does apply is that cars have been more reliable than they have in the past, leading to longer holding periods. I think for the first time, there is no guarantee that objective aesthetics will improve with each new generation of BMW.
Like objectively, the difference between a good sculptor or painter and a very bad one. The front of the new BMW looks, objectively, hideous. There is no continuity of lines, use of negative spaces, room to breathe in ratio, leading the eye, etc. There are people who will buy it, people who cannot discern aesthetics. Like a Saudi prince who thinks a gold toilet is “class”. People who can not tell the difference between a Caravaggio and a Mondriaan. But this is the second time in recent history that I have seen a new generation of car look worse than the previous. It happened in the past, sure, but the new car design was obviously more refined, nuanced, impressive, wide, low, new and better than the previous, even if it had “ugly parts”. This new car seems to be objectively uglier in total. E89 - G29 all over again. |

Yes.
4-door M3 have shared the same front-end as the 2-door since the E9X.
