2024 M4 - Need Downpipes & Tune Recommendations

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hi Folks,

I just picked up a G82 M4 out of the blue on a whim and put absolutely zero research into the car before purchasing unlike I usually do with all my other cars, and did not even drive the car before buying, just wanted something to toss around, and now I am in need of some guidance as far as the G82 goes.

I absolutely hate rasp and I am not a die hard fan of going Catless unlike most others, and am planning on doing a high flow catted downpipe system along with a straight mid pipe with factory mufflers and valve controllers, however, I am completely unaware of which tunes are good for these cars, whether or not the catted downpipes will throw a code without tune, etc.

Would anyone be willing to guide me on this subject?

The most common at home plug n play tunes I have heard of so far is JB4 and BootMod as I do not need a custom tune, just an off the shelf one is fine for me, but I also want to know if the car will throw a code if I go with catted downpipes?

Looking forward to getting some guidance.

Thank you

if the CEL is a concern, get the active autowerke downpipes
if it's not, get the MAD catted

If that's the extent of modding you are after, get the JB4. Its reliable, and safe and does not include all the risks and haggles of removing and sending the ECU to Finland.

if your goal is a more extensive build in the future, get the bootmod3.

You don’t like Rasp, good luck. S55’s chainsaw on steroids. S-58 just a chainsaw

what about the Apex Built Mini-Cat resonated downpipes, they’re the only catted resonated dp’s on the market for g8x to my knowledge and thets something i wanted (not sure of the actual difference between it and non res when it comes to sound tho)

As mentioned JB4 is the go to tuning for locked ECU. Downpipes almost always void the engine warranty so consider them carefully.

The resonated apex is not catted. They use a mini cat sensor to trick the ECU. they're catless resonated downpipes, the rasp is similar to any other resonated downpipes on the market.

I have not seen a single case of a downpipe voiding warranty.

a warranty job can be denied if the dealership thinks your upgrade caused the damage. when you upgrade the downpipes, you are reducing the stress on your turbos. downpipes cannot be blamed for any damages.

Congrats on the new G82!

Since you are in Cali and don’t want to go catless and hate rasp get:
- Active Autowerks high flow catted downpipes (guaranteed not to throw a cel, important in California)
- JB4
- Remove the stock air boxes the trays and carbon filters from the top of the air box housings. (You can replace the engine paper air filters with BMC or BMS filters or leave the stock paper filters in there. The stock filters support a ton of power)
- Keep the stock mid pipe
- Get a SST valve controller if you want a bit more volume and adjustability

These cars have huge power potential…people have gone high 9s / low 10s fully stock with only JB4 and E mix / race fuel.

Cheers

Congrats on the new car!

You won't like my recommendation but I would say to start with a single midpipe and rear valve controller and intake for increased sound. If you don't want any rasp at all that's going to be the best setup to guarantee that. If you still want more add on a rear muffler and or a set of catted downpipes.

Why wouldn't he like it?

a single midpipe with a valve controller is the best starting point for an exhaust upgrade especially if the user is looking for a clean rasp-free sound.

Some people are dead set on downpipes. I always choose the more conservative approach which isn't as much fun as full bolt ons.

Femto ECU unlock, MAD catted DP and single mid.

You are not gonna get rid of the rasp as that is just how the car sounds. It will never sound like a lambo or on the other end of the spectrum, a mustang.
