KW HAS vs AST HAS *Advice*
Hey All,
Happy new year!! Just took delivery of my 2024 M4 XDrive and looking to lower it on some adjustable springs. Torn between AST and KW. Any advice or personal experience would be appreciated as I try to decide. Definitely want to go the adjustable route so I can fine-tune it. I want to keep this car dailyable but still fill in that wheel gap. Should I request a certain mm drop when I take it on for the install? Or is it really easy for the shop to raise/lower it until I tell them it’s the right height. I’ve gone through about every forum post here before y’all say “search bar” haha. Thank you for the advice !! |

KW was selected by BMW to make their MP-HAS, so KW gets my vote over AST. I’m picking MP again for my G ride, since it was great on my F80.

Would you say your ride got softer or more firm after switching from stock springs to AST?

My vote is H&R VTF thats what i used on both my G82 (RWD and X-drive) but if i have to pick between AST and KW, i'd go with AST. Looks better in my opinion

I think a lot of people get waaaay to hung up on having the adjustable height. I’ve had coilovers on multiple cars in my life, and 99% of the time I set the height and never touch it again.
If it was my money I’d just buy normal lower springs (which is what I did this time around).

I get the feeling most of the guys who opt for the HAS kits are just getting it because everyone else is lol.

They’re gonna be really similar. I believe AST has slightly stiffer rates.
The biggest benefit of AST is the adjusting is nicer, it’s a single tool, versus the rings and wrenches like a traditional coilover, that tend to seize up overtime. |

I have the BMW HAS kit and love it. I’m surprised at how LITTLE harshness it added. The ride is honestly perfect as is the drop for me. No rubbing on 15/12 future classic spacers either. BMW kit built by KW so I’d go that way. With only 1300 miles on my car I felt like the BMW part (and BMW part number decal they give you for the door jam) MIGHT help get me out of jail with future service visits if they were suspension related.

I’d go AST ALS over KW HAS because it has a higher rear height adjustment. Most HAS kits are setup with too much forward rake to set the front and rear gaps the same. Front fenders are physically larger openings so settling the tire finger gap the same lowers the front too much. I’d get the car corner balanced after installing the kit and stick with the final corner balanced height adjustments (each corner will have a different ride height).
Front is easy to adjust the height but the rear isn’t as easy and you have to drop the lower control arm to adjust rear ride height. Having target ride heights helps by presetting the height adjusters. |
