I have been a strong AWD defender and indeed I have one on order but if it was available in my country, I would have gone RWD just because of the 6MT.
I don't see the point in buying a RWD with 8AT but that has been already extensively discussed on other threads.

Here's my take on AWD:
Didn't care much about AWD (being in CA) until I moved to CO. First winter I went in and traded my '94 Integra for a brand new '07 STI, after having gotten stuck in a 10yr. blizzard (Oct '06). With the "rear biased" STI (260whp/320wtq), I would tail whip in icy conditions unless I would lock the differential, which would allow for more predictable and controllable slides around icy turns (intentionally taken at higher speed). Fast forward 12yrs, I moved to a 650whp/650wtq GTR. Although never driven on ice/snow, I would experience a slight tail whip before the front tires would pull me out of the turn. This, while negotiating turns on cold tires, winter and a high rate of speed (high rate of speed, at least for me... I'm no Nicky Lauda -- ). Even when I had it in CA for the brief 2 yrs I worked in Santa Barbara, it was a blast to point and shoot during cold morning w/out fearing having a Mustang-YouTube moment Fast forward 3yrs. This past weekend, while doing some last minute Halloween shopping, I experience once again, the grace of the AWD (aka xDrive) on my M4Cx (not an oxymoron on my book while the culture is learning about the new standard) pulling me from an otherwise tail whip under acceleration while ambient temperatures where hovering 32deg. RWD? No thanks. I see RWD like I see Harleys. I love bikes, but personally, I would never spend money on a Harley. I'm a sportbike or dirtbike kind of guy (but too old to own one now) and get along with Harley dudes, just like I do with RWD-hardcore drivers

I am ordering RWD, I don't want the extra complexity, and honestly I see no reason to pay extra for something that doesn't benefit my driving style, I don't drag race. I plan on using it in the winter as well , I just don't drive fast when the weather is bad regardless of rwd or awd.
There seems to be some conflicting information about the 4WD sport mode, some articles are saying it's only available with DSC off, just like 2wd. Can anyone clarify? Last edited by emix84; 11-02-2021 at 06:34 AM.. |

I think you need the M Driver package if you want to have some traction adjustability with the AWD in RWD mode Yes..confusing! |

In AWD sport mode I’m pretty sure he meant MDM mode with stability and traction control, which allows slippage until the car thinks it has gotten too much slippage than engaging DSC. To get RWD with Xdrive you have to have all off, but with the m drivers package I believe a $900 option you can set traction control from 1-10 In this video I’m pretty sure he states he’s in AWD sport mode (MDM) allowing the car to rotate, but DSC will trigger once the car senses it has too much slippage. https://m.youtube.com/watch?time_con...ature=emb_logo Last edited by 4DRS55; 11-02-2021 at 07:54 AM.. |

MDM DSC OFF With DSC OFF you can choose 4WD Sport 4WD 2WD The 10 way traction control is only lit up with DSC off and 2WD mode enabled.

Is it easy to have the rear step out on the xdrive at lower speeds? The article I mentioned above says it's even more eager than the RWD. Any insights on this?

... which makes me wonder how well the new G80/82 are actually selling? We all know about order delays and scarcity of production allocations, but how much of that is tied to limited volumes and supply-chain issues? I don't believe BMW (NA or worldwide) breaks down specific model sales, so it may be difficult to ascertain, but anecdotally at least I have seen very few G8X's (compared to F8X's).

Personal transport will be for the minority and being able to actually drive anything will be for the minority or for professionals only. Sad times ahead for people that get a a buzz from driving. It wont be long before we're told driving is too dangerous for us humans and that computers need to do it 100% of the time. Booooooooo |

Ive never owned an 'M' car before and picked up my first G80 M3C last Friday.
As its my first M, the goal was to get the ultimate performance M3. The one with the best 0-60s right out of the box and the one that impresses the most on youtube (1/4 miles 0-60 etc). So, that meant M3C Xdrive. I had my kids to consider so the Xdrive meant safety too. My bro-in-law works at BMW, he had a TR M3C come in, knowing I was looking I took it out for a run and had to have it. So I collected my first M3C last Friday, no Xdrive in sight and I dont regret it one bit. I was so impressed with RWD that I quickly realised that I didnt need Xd. I've been out in wet conditions (as you do often in the UK) and its great, so much better than I expected!. Im too long in the tooth to be needing absolute performance in the wet / tricky conditions or at the lights when Mr or Mrs AMG or RS pulls up alongside me after some fun. Im not needing to push limits even though in RWD form, Im nowhere near pushing this thing to its limits. its for the pure joy and thrill of the drive and this ticks all my boxes several times. Yes had Xdrive been offered, Id have taken it, but I dont believe that for my own driving pleasure and skills that I've lost out on anything by having RWD. For ultimate peace of mind and dare I say bragging rights then yes and M3C with Xd but for me the RWD is all I need. |

Hot off the press, so I suspect not many of you guys have seen this yet, but you need to. In this debate over rwd vs xdrive, whoever woulda thunk this 4300lb vert beast with xdrive would hit 60 in 3.24 sec?
