Did you bring this up with the car wash before leaving....or you didn't notice the damaged PPF until you got home? If you didn't notice until later, you have no case. And since the car wash won't reimburse, you really don't have much choice.

So if I were you, I would simply embrace the suck, replace the PPF on that one section of the bumper, and never do business with that car wash again.

nothing wrong with trying to get some relief from the car wash, but I thought they all usually had disclaimers to protect themselves

Worse case scenario the PPF did its job, replace it or move on.

Are you sure your son didn't hit it with his bike?
/s

If I were in your situation I'd just pay the $500 to have the PPF replaced.

I'd be more upset with the awful PPF job with the cut line around the roundel. Take this as an opportunity to get it redone properly.

Maybe his son drove it through the wash? I bet that explains it.

The PPF was done by the dealer who subbed it out. With hood it was 1800. The guy will replace the bumper PPF for five hundred. Car wash of course does not want to pay. Question: am I being too picky? Is this so minor I should ignore it? My wife thinks I am insane for even noticing it. My car is only a few months old. With all the options it cost twice what my first house cost - not making that up. This car will likely be around for at least ten years. And yes I know to avoid car washes but honestly if you live in Minnesota manual washes in the winter are not a real option.
No way, you're not being too picky! If that happened to me I'd be choked!

If you feel like pushing the issue, push it.

My recommendation is to minimize your time and emotional investment in the process by keeping communication short and to the point and having no expectations of a favorable result.

It’s $500. Keep everything proportional to the stakes. Bluff being a PIA and maybe they won’t call it. If they do, just proceed with the repair on your own dime and let life go on.

I'd get it fixed on my own dime and leave nasty Yelp reviews with details and pics...and then forget about it. I'd be incredibly pissed off, but I've learned the hard way to let things go.

Very little chance of getting the car wash to pay. Would be pissed but does not look like I would do anything with it after they turn you down.

I appreciate all the input. I wondered if anyone would say anything about the gaps around the rondel. And, I know that life is too short to focus on the car wash folks. It's tempting , but my time is precious. I spend days being that guy for other people and am worn out when it comes to myself. I am getting used to the imperfection. I appreciate the perspective comments as well, but will continue to park at the back of the lot, avoid valet parking, stress when following a rock truck, avoid freshly tarred roads, and remind my kids to avoid hitting the car with their bikes.

In closing, the car wash company sent an email today saying not their fault and I should talk to my own insurance company. I may just badger them a bit more before I leave it all behind me.

car washers are notorious for damaging vehicle panels. If I cannot hand wash or have it hand washed, I would pass on anything else. Too risky
