you need to register the car with your BM3 license by connecting in the car with the app prior to removing your ECU.

Help please. ECU is Femto unlocked. I have updates turned off but I am still receiving messages that there are updates available.

Is there anyway to clear those?

You have the Remote Software Updates disabled in car? I still have them active in the phone app for our X7 but do not receive notifications for my M3 since they're disabled.

So I guess I didnt do it correct. I have it cleared on my phone app and just now found it on the Idrive 8. I have it deselected now so hopefully all is well.

I read the thread and not a single person followed the "temporary export" process? ATA carnet is what I'm hearing. Writing "temporary export" on the box is not correct lol

Link to source document that you're referencing? Changing things up now because of something you've "heard" when everything has been fine (that I know of) doesn't make sense. Writing Temp Export on the box is just extra credit. Customs details are within the paperwork that gets filed electronically.

You’re hearing nonsense, an ATA carnet is for commercial goods temporarily traveling through multiple participating counties , it’s not remotely applicable to an individual sending 1 personal item to one country and back.

That makes sense. But when I spoke to multiple DHL agents that’s what I’ve been told. Is there another electronic method of filing temporary export for a package?

Just go to a DHL express service point and tell them what you want. Don't let an agent that is likely confused on what you're asking or what the proper process is decide.

Anyone ever had their DME held in Finland customs? Called DHL and they said it was because they required identification from the reciever, nothing required of me. DHL will get back to me by Monday or Tuesday.

Used Euroklasse's Femto service who provided me all the paperwork. Only odd thing I guess was it's addressed to an Anastasia and the company name wasn't Femto other than their email.

Seems like it was only held in customs for about 20 hours. Shows delivered Monday morning their time. Now to just wait I guess for them to send it back.

IIRC, that's who I was instructed to address it to as well. The receiving company name is different than Femto as well. You'll have to contact Euroklasse for information if it doesn't get resolved by Monday or Tuesday since you aren't Femto's direct customer and they may not speak with you.

Yep, happened to me. Had to use the DHL finland (https://www.dhl.com/fi-en/home.html) site and use their chat. I needed to upload a doc for customs. Took an extra 5 days because of that.

Packaged mine up and DHL picked it up a few hours ago. Looks like 3 days to get there from Phoenix.

On the DHL site there is an option you're choosing "Return for repair" when creating the shipment, which is mentioned in the OPs post. This results in the temporary export. Femto can then use the "Return after repair" to complete the loop.

My tracking says customs has pre approved the shipment, hoping for smooth sailing

No issues with shipping/customs... However, I ran into a problem while flashing and currently working with BM3 support to resolve.

Also, for anyone looking at BM3:CustomROM, see the response I got.

Did you hook up to your car and activate the BM3 license before sending the DME? At https://www.bootmod3.net/ you should see your VIN and the activated license details.

If not, it sounds like FEMTO did exactly as their note says and just did a regular unlock. It's unlocked, but BM3 likely has to use some unique process to get their ROM on there.

Shipped out DME Tue July 18, back to me on Mon Jul 24. 6 days door to door through DHL, pretty solid.

Shipping was ~$240 there, ~$160 back.

Just helped someone ship theirs out on Friday, they’re done and shipping back already. Seems like it’s getting faster and faster.

Personally, I used a trusted service because the peace of mind is worth the price of admission. With the G80 being my daily and me hating when things go south/wrong - the added cost of having someone come, remove the DME, ship the DME, then come back to my home to install the DME, then ensure that bootmod3 and customROM is working, is worth it. I feel no shame in saying that I’m simply not comfortable with doing the whole process myself.

If you feel confident, then you should absolutely do it and feel good about saving money (as you should). But for monkeys like me that don’t have the expertise/time but have anxiety about fucking things up - just use a service and consider the added cost a tax for not being able to do it yourself. I know what I can and can’t do, and I’d rather trust someone that knows what they’re doing and forking over some money for doing so. I can always make more money, but I can’t take back time if I screw something up during the removal/shipping of the DME.

I used @tristatebm3 for the unlock. Adam came to my home on July 3rd, shipped it out on the evening of July 3rd, then reinstalled the DME July 7th in the afternoon. No fuss, no mucking about - just an easy transaction. Highly recommended if you’re in the tri state area.
