Typical discount of MSRP for G82 and typical deposit

I’m looking to place a customer order in California. Should I be aiming for 5% off?

For the deposit, my dealer for 5k. Should I be aiming for 1k?

Thanks for your replies. Earlier there were two replies saying MSRP and 5K down.
Haha… I think one person deleted theres. Thing is, this is what the dealer wants. Like this was the first offer from the dealer. There’s no way that’s what they would do after some negotiation.

I would love to get some more data points…

My point about a deposit in California is that if the deposit is refundable, then what’s the point of taking $5k of my money and letting it sit for 8 months. It’s not like it’s going to protect the dealer because if want the money back, I’ll get all of it back in California.

I was under the impression the deposit is non refundable. I had to put a 5k deposit because I got carbon seats and they told me they would have a harder time selling that car if I backed out. I didn’t have any problems with the 5k though because I want this car so badly 😂😂😂…. I was just happy to get an allocation

Varies from dealer to dealer, but $5k deposit and 1% off MSRP for my latest order on a G80.

Previously I’ve been able to negotiate a $2k deposit at MSRP.

The deposit should only be if you are ordering a car. It’s just so they know they’re giving the allocation to a serious buyer but yes they’re fully refundable. I paid 500

Not sure how relevant this is for California, but I was able to secure pricing on a '25 G82 build from three dealers at 5% off MSRP plus incentives (if applicable at time of delivery) in PA/NJ --- deposit requests varied from $0 (1x) to $1k (2x).

If you can get 5% off a custom order that’s a great deal.
Some dealers take deposits to prevent odd colors/specs being ordered and then having a hard to sell spec if you walk but generally deposits are legally required to be refunded. My opinion is if you are serious about the order no biggie to put some cash down as it just goes to your cost anyhow. Particularly if your dealer has a ready to build spot.

I would rather tie up $5k in something I want to do or earns interest for 8 months than give it to them, especially when it offers them no real protection against not being able to sell the car, since I can get a 1k, 5k or 20k deposit back equally easily in California

Haven’t put down a deposit in over 15 years and always at a discount off of MRSP. 1st car yes for a deposit over 20 yrs ago, but once you build a relationship and dealer knows you, then adios deposit. $5k seems excessive, but it’s Cali as that state never surprises me with their nonsense.

Not sure exactly, but if they’re able to use the funds then they probably use it to pay down credit issued for cars on the lot.. or payroll etc.

G80-M3 is MRSP if no ‘hookup’ whereas M4-G82/G83 is easy under MRSP. I had a first month allocation G83 during the pandemic with price split the difference between MRSP and wholesale.

MSRP with a $2500 deposit in Canada. After I confirmed my…differently abled…spec, they required me to make a further $7500 deposit.

I couldn’t get them to budge on my G83. MSRP + $5k deposit.

What was you spec? Carbon buckets? Individual paint? Xmass tree or Superman exterior/interior/brake combo? Frozen exterior paint? Individual trim?
