Winter Tires
Anyone in the Chicago area still running their winter tires? With temps still dropping into the 30s at times but also days when it's warmer, I'm wondering what's worse in terms of tire wear--winter tires on a warmer day (like today) or summer tires on a colder day in the 30s-40s.

I put my summers on this last weekend. I don't see temps dipping into freezing or any cold rainy days in the extended forecast. Will take it easy if there's anything close.

Reply from northwestern lower peninsula .. seasonal tire swaps are scheduled in a couple weeks (normally we wait till first of May). Our daytime highs have rarely exceeded mid-40s, so it's been 'safer' to run winter tires; besides, we've had light snow/ice a couple mornings in the past week.

My winter tires are still on and it's been several days in the 50s here. Freezing temps will harden summer tires prematurely and I'm not a fan of that.
I wait for at least a week of >50F temperatures in April with nothing too cold in the forcecast to switch.

I put my summer tires back on the last week in March. I simply couldn’t wait anymore (I think my summer wheels and tires look much better). Luckily I park in a heated garage so even when it’s cold outside, with warm tires they perform “okay”. Of course the day I got them put on, it was literally snowing. I keep the TPMS up on the gauge and just wait till the tires are in the 60s before doing anything too stupid.
