7200 rpm redline... lowest in the history, along with its design.

It's planned on purpose to get us all to buy into the XmDrive at a higher cost and to kill off the 6MT.
Big let down for the 6MT crowd, as BMW is forcing your hand to 8AT with MxDrive if you want any performance numbers. I suspected all along that BMW M would detune the S58 for the 6MT. Sure as hell that DME/ECU will have anti flash tuning software installed from the factory for ya all who think of getting a 6MT and tuning to over 500hp. The crank hub will self implode when over 410 torque.

I don't hate the new design, I don't even really hate the grilles, but I don't love it either. Parts of it are growing on me though.
The M3 seems to have more presence. The M4 feels a bit lackluster and generic (same goes for the new 4). It reminds me of one of those GTA cars that takes cues from a bunch of different cars but becomes a third-party mush. As someone who designs vehicle wrap liveries however, I'm just wondering who TF designed that wrap for the M-performance kitted one? I dislike that more than anything else about the new models ![]()

Too over styled IMHO. The paddle shifters look like it was borrowed from a Legos parts bin.
Also, looks like teams of people designed their own elements of the car, then assembled them all together in the end. Nothing flows.

What's with the tacky plastic fender extensions borrowed from the old X5? Why not just make the fender wide enough?
![]() Also, why no M3 badge on the trunk, but the M4 gets one? ![]() Also find the different size tire sidewalls distracting: ![]()

The M3 definitely looks better than the M4 in my opinion. I'd love to see pictures of the M3 pure 6 speed manual without the sensor in the right kidney please!
Interior seating and dash / cluster looks good but the shifter area is a bit of a mess. Hopefully the 6 speed is much cleaner. Tow hook license plate mount and no sensor might clean up the front end quite a bit. |

I have spotted only one positive thing. I like the wheels and may purchase them for my silverstone f80. If it fits, I think it will look fabulous!

After looking at the cars for the last 24 hours, here are my initial thoughts..
I don't like anything about the M4, but that may be due to the color. I love Sao Paulo Yellow, but I don't think it looks good on a big bulbous coupe. I think it would work better on the M3 where the novelty of having a bright highlighter color on a big sedan is fun. I like the M3 except for the front end and this portion of the car: ![]() I get that they wanted to use the same doors as the regular 3er, but I think it could have been done more gracefully. And finally, I think they nailed the interior, but would have liked to have seen a real parking brake. |

Has anyone seen a picture of the 6MT interior? I'm trying to imagine how a shift knob boot will look in that flat area with all the buttons they've introduced since the G20.
