Agreed. I have an m3 Cs, arguably one of the best m3 ever made (CSL is the best IMO).

I hate the thing. It's the first and last non-6MT I'll ever own (until I have no choice). It's much faster than my prior 6MT F80, and any other 6MT I've ever owned, yet I cannot f*cking wait to get rid of it.

Sorry, but couldn't help laughing at that statement. "Never" is a bit of a strong statement here. All my earlier cars were manual BECAUSE it was the fastest option and the better performance option. It's no longer the case today, so I agree that there are different motivations to getting a manual today, but it hasn't always been the case.

That's what you think. But you know I'm referring to the purist driver. If the E36 M3 Auto was faster than the manual, I very much doubt you'd have gotten an auto instead.

They are not killing off the base model, not at least during the life cycle of this model. The UK (Right hand drive cars for the ROW in the F80 production numbers) had a f**king 2% take rate on the F80 in 6MT. Literally, 2% and you could get one on the F80 all the way until the end. Now they didn't get the manual for the G8x but then again, they didn't earn one with those numbers.

There was a pretty solid 28.5% take rate on the F80 (and presumably something similar if not slightly more on the F82 but we don't have numbers, at least not yet).

I personally feel a lot of people had buyer's remorse with the DCT on the last gen. I know 2 individuals going back to 6MT after having 1 or more DCT F8x's.

Also, there are 2x as many deposits on the G80 in 6MT at my dealer compared to the G80 comp. (8 to 4 respectively).

You will be able to order it in 2022 and beyond. This is my least favorite thread in bimmerpost history (2nd least favorite is Yas Marina Blue Regrets lol). BMW is saving the 6MT and people are accusing the one car company who's listening to us 6MT enthusiasts of deliberately killing off that which they continue to sell.

With 28.3%, the US is by far the highest take rate for the 6MT F80. Global take rate was 15.6%, while global LHD take rate was 20.1%.

Of note, from I gather, they are still offering a RHD 6MT G8X despite the low take rate on the F80, only BMW UK is not offering in their market.

No it wasn't, not sure where you are getting that from. In the EU, the "automatic" E36 was an SMG, which was about on par with the 6MT. In the US, they got a crappy planetary auto that was slower than the MT.

Fun is subjective. I get just as much joy changing gears with my paddle shifters and how smooth and quick the gears change. I enjoy sitting in LA traffic not having to change gears every 5 seconds. I also enjoy pulling next to a 6MT and smoking them (never happens ).

At any rate, I concede that there is a segment of the market that appreciates 6MT for whatever reason. My point of view is that 6MT is a dying breed and sooner or later will be killed off; however, the discussions about 6MT seem to be never ending and dominate just about every forum and topic. Yes, there will be another M3/4 with with 6MT, but it will be a neutered one with fewer horses and options. IMO, they should offer it with all the bells or whistles or just kill it off for good. The next generation will likely be a hybrid or all electric, so it might not even have a transmission. Are we gonna have the same discussions in 4-5 years?

Yep, I've put in an order for a RHD 6MT G80 in Hong Kong. The only crappy part is that we can't get the Laser lights and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

My only point was that people these days prefer MT because they find it more fun and engaging than an auto, not because it's faster. That doesn't mean everyone should find it more fun and obviously many people don't.

I am personally on the fence. The reason I would choose 6MT is exactly because it's a dying breed. Like going retro one last time. Otherwise to be honest an auto suits my needs better.

The manual has been slower at least since the E9X M3. This is nothing new.
That car came out in 2007, so it's been over a decade that the manual cars have been slower than the 'auto' ones.

I didn't know the M2C was offered with laser lights. I thought it was just LEDs

Who cares about the EU? I'm in the US. I'm not going to dissect every market the E36 was ever made. If you want to list every generation of M3 and see which model was faster either manual or auto just to try to disproof my point, go for it.
