Sounds like they did the first step of the break-in service on your diff, and forgot the second step. That would be the "not-so-important" step where they put gear oil back in to the empty differential.
You will get a brand-new differential. Unfortunately I expect that means you get to go through the break-in procedure. |

Yeah you're right, just spoke to the service manager and the tech messed up. They are replacing the rear differential. Anyone have an idea if this can cause any issues in the future?

Damn wrench monkeys.
I’d think your whole service is suspect now. Did they put the right oil in the engine? Did they snug down the drain plug/oil filter assembly? |

I'd ask them for a root cause and call them on their mistake they potentially made. They giving you a loaner in the mean time? I'd also ask, what they can do to make it right, if they were at fault...

I have a 530e as a loaner reached out to BMW NA and they assigned me a case manager. Hopefully they can help me out.

- It will be at least a few weeks before you get your car back, I would demand some sort of financial reimbursement (Especially on a brand new car) - If the above can't be done, ask for a better loaner -- It's not unreasonable for you to ask for an M loaner - Have them agree to consistent updates (minimum 3x/week) |

Its a mistake, wouldn't trust service there anymore unless you get their lead tech. Get it replaced by their lead as well, request it. Its under warranty so you'll be fine. Get a nice loaner and just move one.
You shouldn't have any issues from the replacement, but just keep it documented in case anything else fails which can relate to the replacement in the rear. I would also ask for an alignment check in the rear once theyre done, just because. |

Maybe you can ask them to extend your drive train warranty by another 1-2 yrs when you discuss it with BMW NA and see if they will bite. Otherwise, its pretty shitty what happened and maybe talk to the dealership manager and see if they would do that instead

When my car spent a month waiting for parts, I got a credit of what was one month's payment covered on my BMW FS loan. You can ask BMW NA to give you an extended (3rd party) warranty, but the dealer would likely cover that cost. If it only takes one week, you're likely not to get much. If it takes a month or more, I would push for the extended warranty but would settle for financial compensation for however long your car is unavailable.
