Advanced Driver Assistance Package

Hi All,

As I'm putting my order through for 2021 M3 (my first M) , should I consider the Advanced Driver Assistance pkg?

I understand it will assist in traffic and hwy driving with Cruise control where it will slow down if vehicle in front slows down.
Anyone that has this pkg, see value?

Thanks,
Clement

system is open for orders now? I was told "late oct but prob early nov"

the system basically combines radar cruise and lane keeping assist in highway and dense traffic speed... i.e. level 2 autonomous driving.

Exciting part about this system seems to be that with the sensor that stares at your eyes, in traffic jam situation you can have your hands off the whole time provided you are alert. My current car it's about 15 sec of hands off time only

The traffic jam part is useful, the highway speed adaptive cruise is nice in theory but I find even the shortest gap is generally too big and people will always merge into it which causes the car to brake... perhaps says more about the shitty driving habits of Toronto drivers than anything

yup.. system is open for order. My dealer said he submitted by order yesterday and sent me a print out (PDF) with option/packages selected.
My target date is June 2021 as it stands now. He will confirm end of month when they submit to Bmw Germany.

Thanks for the video. Your point on safe the gap in front is actually a big issue for manufactures introducing autonomous cars, as they fear the cars will simply be bullied by 'normal' drivers. Will be interesting when it happens.

I think you get that rather ridiculous looking sensor in the grille beneath the license plate if you get that package...ive heard it looks worse in pictures than it does in person though

hmm.. interesting. I thought all the spring order are full sold out for M3. M4 was available. My options were May-June 2021. As I'm getting frozen blue, he said it might be longer but will confirm once ordered is summited to BMW Germany. My current lease also expire around that time frame

Yes, decided to get M3 Competition X-drive (AWD). Sad part I lose 6 speed transmission

Nice if AWD can be delivered in June then it won't be that bad of a wait. My current lease ends in March.

Yea will double check see what's going on. When I did my round of asking , which was the week after official unveil. Word was HEA cars that should arrive Jan and Feb all filled. Custom order first batch gonna be Mar delivery.

Btw did your dealer have prices for AWD cars ?

My understanding M3/M4 competition will be available around summer 2021, however the regular M models will be spring 2021.
And competition models will be M xdrive.

Prices for M3 (87K) and M3 (91K)competition are on their website.

Wait are you sure ... I'm under the impression that the order guide and configurator up on BMW.ca are for RWD only for both standard and competition models. AWD competition will be available in summer with no prices yet.

That's my understanding and I did confirm with my dealer and he said my order is submitted with M xdrive. I have to talk to them today to add the advanced driver assistance so I will reconfirm.

Just did a quick research and here is what I found.

The new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M4 Coupé are fitted with a six-cylinder in-line engine, whose 353 kW/480 hp is channeled to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. In the new BMW M3 Competition Sedan and new BMW M4 Competition Coupé, the 375 kW/510 hp version teams up with an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. The two Competition models will also be available (est. from summer 2021 depending on your market) with the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system

Your initial statement reads like all competition models are AWD (it's how I'm reading it) and that's not correct. The base and competition models in RWD guise should be available at the same time. The M xDrive will be available later. The prices you quoted are for the RWD versions. You may want to double check this ASAP with your dealer. Maybe BMW is offering the AWD at no additional cost...but I would find that hard to believe...

Hmm.. where does on the BMW website under M3 selection, it says RWD or Xdrive? I don't see that option mention x-drive, even when I look at M2 or M5. Maybe I'm missing something?
I will check with Dealer today again.. thanks for heads-up. I hope BMW dealer quote is right..

Keep you posted.

It definitely doesn't distinguish that anywhere on that page. It's just assumption coupled with what they said at the launch (RWD only initially). I certainly hope you're right but better safe than sorry.

Good luck man and keep us posted!

Just had a chat with the dealer and some good and bad news

Good news: My M order is placed with M xDrive and they are pretty confident for delivery in June 2021. The sales mgr, said they have spot reserved with Bmw for my order with M xdrive.

Bad news: The price quoted was for RWD. Xdrive (AWD) price will only be available early next yr. They suspect the price will around 1500-2000K (CAD).

Thanks DecemberStorm mirob .

Will keep you posted if I hear more!

Take care!

Off topic but because the thread drifted this way..... Will be hard for your xdrive order to arrive in June when the xdrive models do not even go into production until July....

On topic if you are in regular traffic jams or take long distance trips where you do not feel the need to make up every possible second on the highway by zig zagging then the radar cruise/driver assist is great just let the car make all the minor adjustments and enjoy the ride. In stop and go traffic can even take your hands off the wheel

I have the Drivers Assistance Pkg in my M5. It works fantastic on the highway. Great for long drives, can relax your legs. I use it quite often. Worth it for me.

Hmm.. Just curious where did you get that info from? Not sure why my dealership said M Xdrive will be ready in June-July 2021.

I have accepted their will be delays as this is new launch and due to covid.

As always do a bit of a search but if you want to review the existing discussion..... the information comes from a few sources including a few other threads on the M3/M4 forum, the "upcoming bmw models" thread in the general forum. It has been discussed in detail.

Always remember dealers know the least and many will say what they need to just to keep you happy if there is some grey area they can fall back on.
If you get the dealers first allocation the earliest build week will be in July or August
