What the hell did I just watch? Who is this car marketed towards? I stopped the video halfway through.

3 things for me:
1. Still hate the grills (They will look even worse with the US plate, being taller but not as wide). 2. Hate them slightly less than the regular 4 grills. 3. At least the silhouette still looks like a BMW, something that can't be said for the iX. There. I said something nice about it (sort of). |

Each time that a brand was diluted to appeal to the 'it' scene, the demise of the product (and any nods to what made them become desirable in the first place) seems to speed up.

Lol this whole new ad and marketing campaign is horrible. It’s just not my cup of tea. I haven’t seen the G80 in person so I’ll hold my final thoughts on it until then but I definitely can say I don’t like this need for speed M3 or these new style commercials they are producing.
I loved when BMW had the short films to promote the cars of the early 2000’s, but this video game style era of marketing of bmw hopefully passes soon, because it’s so tacky. |

Not sure if this has been brought up in this thread, but let's compare 2011 BMW marketing and design to 2020 BMWhatthefuckisthat

Trying to separate the artistic vision (was there a vision? ...) of the video from M Performance parts.
Artistic vision: the homage to The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Dryft in the beginning of the video couldn't define the goal for the viewer and fell short of the very goal which remains a mystery to this date. M Performance parts: the brief glimpse of the exhaust looks awesome. Verdict: not a threat to the artistic vision of VDub campaign from 2006. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VDub "VDub was an American advertising campaign used by Volkswagen during 2006 for the Volkswagen GTI. Intended to parody MTV's Pimp My Ride, advertising agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky created a series of three television commercials directed by Jonas Åkerlund, starring Swedish actor Peter Stormare as an effete German engineer named Wolfgang, and German model Sonja Wöstendiek as his assistant Miss Helga. In each ad, Wolfgang introduces a "contestant" and Miss Helga showcases and insults their gaudy and distastefully modified compact car of a competitive make - specifically a Mitsubishi Eclipse, Ford Focus and a Honda Civic. Wolfgang then excitedly announces that they are going to "unpimp" the contestant's car, in which he presses a button on a handheld remote and the car is violently destroyed (such as being crushed by a shipping container or smashed by a wrecking ball) as the contestant watches. Each contestant is then given a brand new Volkswagen GTI, a car that has been "pre-tuned by German engineers". Wolfgang uses gestures and expressions reminiscent of hip-hop culture throughout the ads for humorous effect, such as when he proclaims "we just dropped it like it's hot!" after crushing a Ford Focus. Most notably, he opens every ad with "V Dub in the house!" and ends every ad by recreating the Volkswagen logo in a hand sign accompanied with, "V Dub! Representing Deutschland!" |
