Looks like the BMW M2 front end along with the M8 should be the direction for a new M3/M4 front fascia.

There are also more body design issues with the new G8x M3/M4 at the rear and the quarter panels. BMW isn't leading, but following other automotive designs...which is what happens when money and brand status are more important than design and engineering.

"Jack Lambert missing two front teeth"...HaHa.

1970s Steelers Dynasty, like Mean Joe Green and led by Terry Bradshaw and Franco Harris, and Lynn Swan. Jack Lambert missing his front teeth, perfectly describes the new G8x M3/M4.

Chip Foose is known as a car hot rodder and wheel designer. But he also is an automotive design artist who went to the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.

Cheers

Yep. The M340 still looks better than both in the front.

Chip brings up some really good points on the overall design language of the G80 and attempts to merge the design of the G80 and its predecessors.

"Don't ever forget who you are."

BMW is in the middle of an identity crisis. I hope they figure it out.

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed watching that. Chips shop is about 5 mins from my house - I swing past there every once in a while just to see if there is anything interesting sitting out.

Why did they not just hire Foose to design them lol? That looks a lot better than the shit BMW tried to create. It's still a pretty large departure from the the typical BMW look, but it's at least palatable.

I'd also get rid of the center divider in the lower section which would retain the traditional "M-sport" look of the lower intake.

Next we can work on restoring the "Hoffmeister" kink.

All they had to do was a baby M8 front end, it's simply all they had to do for the front. Then, have the kink, matching sized f/r profile tires so the car doesn't look completely f'd up from the sides (once you see it, you can't un-see it), replace those horrendous Honda Civic slider rear brake calipers, and ditch the Lexus tail lights for something like the current M4 LCI or even OLED tails. BMW just blew the car all the way around, even the side mirrors are horrendous. There's not a single thing I like about the car save for the carbon seats.

Sigh.

It's not identity, they're in the middle of a design crisis. It's not like it's original or bold. The gigantic grille trend started more than a decade ago as Chip alluded. Chip is also right about the rear moving away from BMW's roots. The rear looks more Japanese or Korean than something out of Germany. Overall, it's a lazy design.

Identity-wise, it's pretty clear: they're not even pretending anymore, they are clearly abandoning the enthusiast community and going mainstream. Marketing and not engineers appear to be running the show more than ever.

"BMW is following".

Exactly. Used to be the leader. Now they are last in line following.

Horrible design.

they put arrogant bean counters in charge.

gl finding enough customers to spend 80-100k+ on a shitty 4k lb abomination with pretty seats and floating calipers

they will be punished severly for not listening to wealthy loyal customer base that is unfortunatelly for them well educated and have class.

Personally I like the new grill, Chips looks great. My favorite is the Turner Motorsports design.
