a porsche is a porsche.

Just test drove a 991.2 carrera T. and I am WOWed. I think a little more wow than a 718 GTS 2.5 that I tested last month.

it is not about the power factor... the M3 just feels more powerful than P-car. but last weekend after the test drive I took the m3 on to the same road is see if there is a different. 991 was just more controllable and way less on the brakes than m3. 991 was able to attack turns quicker.

never the less. any other M3 owner here also have porsche or sold their porsche to g80 M3.

Is it really that much better ?

BTW . I am not looking to sell my m3. but just a addition to my garage. It one of those mid-life things I must check off, owning a porsche.

I have already check off having an M3.

I owned a 991.2 Carrera T. It was a great, great car and one of the few I actually miss. It's a much more precise weapon vs an M car. IMO the only car I've owned that drove better have been my two 718 GT4s. My G80 M3 is rather blunt comparably but it's still quite good for what it is. If not a GT car, the T does a very good job in providing a special experience.

I have owned (and I'm sure I am missing a few); 991.1S (still own), 991.2S, 991.2T, 718 GT4, 718 GTS, 718 GT4 (still own), RS3 X2, E46 M3 X2, E92 M3 X2, F80 M3 X2, Z4M Coupe, F90 M5 Comp, Macan S X2, Macan GTS X2, G80 M3.

BTW - I daily drove all of these and IMO there are few cars that are as fun as a Porsche (sports car or SUV) to drive daily or as a weekend car.

I had 2 E92 M3, F10 M5, F82 M4, F80 M3, 991.2 S, 991.2 GTS and 2 992 S's and I came back to BMW. Why?

Because while the 911 is the most special car Ive ever owned. Its not practical to daily drive as I did in every single one Ive owned. I wish I had not bought so many 911's and waited until now to buy a Turbo S or GT3 for a garage queen, weekend car. I did my Porsche ownership all wrong. I now understand why people dont drive them. Because they are not fun to daily drive. I mean they are! But its just so much easier to daily in a M3 or something else with more room and less worry.

Sounds like you want one to weekend. In that case. GET ONE. For SURE. I loved my 991.2's. They are much more RAW vs the 992 variants. But a 992 S is one hell of a car for the money.

Good luck!

PS: if going 991.2, I would look at the S vs the T. I know I know. The T is cool. But you get a lot more with the S.

There really is no comparison. I have a Chalk 991.2 GTS 4 on the lot looking for a new home along with a Guards 992 C2.

Excluding the GT3, I personally prefer a 991.2 GTS or 992 Base/S/GTS rwd. I NEED wider hips. Any 911 without it, I pass.

I have a GTS now and have had 9 total Carreras of which 5 were Turbos or Turbo S's, a GT3, 2 GTS, and a C4S. I have no problem stating that they were or are amazing cars just like I will speak volumes about the G80X and its bang for the buck delivery.

Porsche just has some magic with its chassis and damper/spring setup where it can create more with less (regard hp/tq). Fantastic steering feel along with feedback (arguably best EPS) and just an all around car for the streets (as long as the roads are great).

The Porsche is definitely not a buck car but it does create an amazing driving experience. BANG!!

Here is my thread which many have seen:

I had a 2013 Boxster S for eight years and I know what you mean. All those excellent Porsche attributes.

In a perfect world, both.

I've owned 4 P cars. They're great. Since you're talking about getting one in addition to your M3, I would agree that's the way to go. I don't have any desire for a Porsche SUV (even though I'm sure they're also good) and the M3/M4 is just a much better daily driver than the 911 or Cayman/Boxster... but I can definitely see myself owning another Porsche sports car in the future as a weekend warrior. I want a GT3 or GT4 though.

I went from a 991.1 GT3 to the M4.

Driving experience and fun factor the GT3 beats it in every aspect. I got the M4 for the practicality since I will never give the GT3 the respect it deserves by taking it to a track.

With the 10 year warranty nearing its end I decided to get rid of the GT3 rather than deal with a blown motor out of pocket.

There is no comparison between a G8X and a 991.2 (let alone a 992) in cornering and handling. The Porsche is leagues ahead in that department. The G82 in handling is about a 7/10, whereas a 992 C2S is about a 9, a 992 GT3 is about a 9.75/10. I've driven all of them and that's my subjective score. I have a Lotus Exige Sport 410 fitted with Ohlins TTX36 coilovers and the handling on that is perfect to me and is even better than the 992 GT3 (maybe except extremely high speed cornering). The Lotus Exige is my poor man's 992 GT3 until I can afford one

I actually had an order for an Emira V6 Manual First Edition in Seneca Blue slated for Jan 2024 production but decided to drop it for the Lotus Exige which I got from the same dealer that I placed the Emira order.

The Exige handles better than the Emira due to lower kerb weight, more direct steering and just overall rawness of the car.

Emira is definitely the better daily driver than the Exige. The steering feels very similar to the 992 C2S and turn in response is as crisp as the 992 C2S. The Exige steering is very direct and telepathic but it doesn't have power steering so its quite an effort to steer on low speeds.

The 992 GT3 would be a nice upgrade over the Exige even on high end coilovers due to the fact that the 4.0L engine sits back behind the rear axle and so it provides better stability on high speed cornering. Although an Exige Cup R would be able to track as fast if not ever so slightly faster than a 992 GT3, it still doesn't have the Porsche build quality and unique engineering

I have a 2023 Macan GTS, 718 Spyder, 992 GT3, and the M3 Xdrive, and yes, Porsche is in another league in handling and steering feel.
In the previous years, I owned 991.2 GT3, 991,2 GTS, 981 GT4 and Base Macan, and always no matter which version, you have supreme handling and excellent steering. The 992 GT3 is a world apart in front suspension//steering a big step up in Porsche.
M3 Xdrive is a bang for the buck, with very good handling, good steering (still room for improvement), and a great engine, equipment, etc. Porsches are born as sports cars and they make the SUVs//Crossovers feel almost the same way, the M3 is the best sport sedan all around; if you can keep both, do it.

had a 911 turbo (manual), Cayman S (manual), daily Macan turbos, and a 991.2 gt3 which I am never selling. getting a (auto) m3 for another daily. The 911s are amazing drivers, but for getting in and going to the store, taking the kids to their practice, the 911s lack there. Because the g80 has a torque converter is the reason why I am getting into a bmw, just calmer to drive around than the DSGs.

Yea.. Porsche is no hype.
I've owned 993, 997, 992. My fav was the 997. Perfect 911 in every single way.
I'm just going to assume based on my circle of friends and people I've met, 80% of Porsche owners have a BMW/M in their garages.

So, I have been n my m3 mostly lately because it’s the newer car and I realized I haven’t driven my 718 for a few weeks.

I took it out tonight for about an hour.

It’s simply the better drivers car.
The end.

It’s slower for sure.
But the Porsche is sublime.
It’s just damn fun.

Now, I really like the g80. It’s fast and super comfortable. It has tech the 718 does not and it’s a wonderful car to drive… it’s just different.

If I could only have one, man that would suck.
Because I really enjoy having both. I love the cars in my stable right now. The Porsche is an mt and it is NOT slow, it’s a base but it is fucking quick.

The m3 is just insanity speed. You’re doing a hundred and the car feels like it’s not even trying, like you’re using 1/10th of it’s possibility.

You work more for the speed in the cayman, but damn is it fun. And again, neither of these cars are anything remotely considered slow. But the limits are higher in the m3 for sure.

Is the fun higher?
Eh, depends… it’s a different kind of fun.

For street driving pure enjoyment… the mt Porsche has it for me, but for all other occasions I think I want the m3cx. It’s more comfortable and the car is literally insane. It blows me away how capable it is.

It’s just sooooo nice to have both.
For me the Porsche is really my alone car. I drive that when I just want to drive. The m3 cannot beat it, for pure mt driving enjoyment.

And I mean, I’m usually dinging 100 in the 718 too and doing 70mph in 3rd gear with 3 more to go… car is def not slow, but the m3 is just ridiculous. Idk, I think having both is preferred if you can swing it.

There are a lot of days I don’t want to work for the fun, and the m3 is there for me… real easy cool. It does everything for me and all I have to do is be there. I like that too. Everyone in my family prefers the m3, but the Porsche is really just my car. I think I always have to have both from now on. They really compliment each other well and if you can swing it, totally get a P car because they fill different niches imo.

Interesting. I just sold my base 718 cayman because I thought it was much too slow. It was an MT as well and I felt slower off the line than a decade old mini-van. So little power under 3.5K RPM. I’m hoping to have a lot more fun in my MT G80 arriving in a week.

Well, it is slow vs a g80cx.
But idk, the 718 isn’t slow by any measure that I’m familiar with. It’s got decent grunt in it’s power band and I’m doing 100 in the car on the regular, easily. It’s tuned almost perfectly for the road. I get to wind it out a bit and by the end of third I’m at 70mph just shy of 5k rpm. Could easily go another 2k without effort but I like to shift around 5k for fun in the 718.

That’s crazy to me that you think it’s slow.

Also, don’t agree about 3.5k. That’s way off.
If you had to take it to 3.5k to feel something your car was broken.

2.5k and up is all meaty. You gotta work the downshifts to stay in the powerband… but again, that’s why I like it. That’s fun.

I’m not really in a contest to prove the 718 is fast, but if you think a cayman/boxster is slow (even the base which is the slowest of them all) then you think 90% of cars on the road are slow and I might be underestimating there. I’m doing 70+ mph in 3rd easily… how fast do you want to go?

These silly things people say, slower than a minivan. It’s just hard to take you seriously now. I had to look it up and the fastest minivan I could find is an R63 AMG, which is about the same acceleration as the 718 base give or take a tenth of a second.

A base 718 and a mt m3 are going to be way, way closer in acceleration than a 718 and 99% of minivans on the road. I can honestly say never once in my life have I seen an R63 AMG. (But, I’d like to).

No offense, maybe you don’t know how to drive if you are slower than all the minivans around you while driving a base cayman. A 6mt m3 isn’t going to be THAT quick. Manuals can’t compete anymore in straight line acceleration, so maybe you need the zf auto.

Nothing wrong with that, but def something wrong with your car/driving if you were slower than all the decade old minivans around you while driving a 718.

Unless your just a hyperbolic kinda person and literally nothing you said was real, in which case… kinda seems likely.

You sold a turbo 718 that you could have easily made 400hp for about an extra grand… to buy a mt m3… so you could finally go fast?

Hey, whatever makes you feel special king.

LOL. Funny to say I brought an 2007 R63 for my wife when my 2nd kid was born, and she loved it... While I had a 700hp 2005 E55 wagon.
I have to say that is the fastest/funnest people mover you can get. Especially on road trip SF to LA. If I recall there was only 44 unit import it USA.
