Stock G80 M3 xDrive (500HP) vs. Tuned G80 M3 xDrive (610HP)

This just in,

it seems like Mat Watson from Carwow got ahold of two xDrive M3's, one of which was stock (yellow) and the other being tuned (black).

The tuned car was otherwise stock and had a stage 1 ECU tune by Wrench Studios, giving it an extra 90hp & 73lb-ft of torque.

The stock M3 did the 1/4 mile in 11.2 seconds while the tuned car did it in 10.7 seconds. Both cars were on OEM wheels/tires.

I'm not sure if the stock car is ready for the stage 2 map?

Maybe it needs catless downpipes or high-flow cats but the stage 1 tune could also be a great option for minimizing stress to the engine, although I'd assume the engine could handle the stage 2 map on the stock setup as well. I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me any feedback on that.

Enjoy

Totally! Haha. Imagine if it were tuned on ethanol or race gas…

This car overall is on another level. Tuning it only makes it that much sweeter! What a step up from BMW M to make this S58 & pair it with the xDrive.

0.5sec quicker in the quartermile with just a tune is awesome, for an already quick car

Everyone on this forum (including me): this is how BMW should've tuned it stock

How does the tune reduces stress on the engine? By optimizing timing?

I think OP means reducing the stress associated with going from map 1 to map 2.

Mani... grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I think you have a time zone advantage.

Back to the race--- 90 bhp bump = as expected.

both cars are impressive:

The OEM car (great 11.2 btw) for what it brings to the tuning table if one wants to go that route or the tuned car for what it puts up on the scoreboard with just a simple mod. And as impressed as I am personally with the S58- I think Im more impressed with the handling and driving characteristics of the G8X in general. Its a brilliant ride.

Is it just me or I never see the DSC off in his videos? If that's the case, all these shenanigans are pointless.

Are you still running a piggyback? Did you have any timed runs with before/after to compare?

I am but no times, I really need to get a draggy LOL

but it wont be 90 bhp gains either- Im on 91 octane so maybe 40 wheel or around 50 bhp max circa.

With catless dp right?

I ran a catless dp on a previous car but since then I decided I won't do it again due to the terrible smell and for emissions reasons. I'm really liking that an S58 doesn't really "need" a dp to come to life. In the future I'll definitely consider a flash tune or piggyback with a couple of bolt-ons.

Yes catless; No it doesn't need it at all. I've heard the smell is only during start up in the morning. Some of the guys said it's not bad at all.. but it's really preference. Jb4 on a good map 4 gallons of E85 and a midpipe you can hit 10.5's all day.
