BMW already puts special oil for the break in period, why do you want to put something else on top of it? If this was a newly built motor then sure it needs something.

Please don’t!
The objective of our mineral based break-in oil is to be less slippery, allowing rings to wear and seat properly, and to wash away any debris. Add nothing during break-in, and if you run low then see the dealership. (You could add BMW TPT but don’t. Let them add BMW break in oil.) Even after break-in use no additives in this car. You don’t want to change the additive recipe in your oil by adding stuff. The oil companies put the right stuff in already.

Anyone have a part number for BMW’s break-in oil that a dealership would have on hand to top off? I can’t help but wonder if someone out there at least once went in for this and some jackhole at the dealership just topped it off with normal 0-30 they always use.
