Cool Broke a track record today and destroyed my tires in the process :)

https://fastestlaps.com/tracks/toronto-motorsports-park

1:18.08 (Hostile )

This was my 6th or 7th time at this track, but the very first time in my new M4 Comp which is 100% stock with OEM Pirelli P Zero tires. Last time I was at this track was back in 2019, when I managed 1:27.43 on a 440i Grand Coupe X-Drive with a BM3 tune (390 BHP at the wheels).

I was blown away at how well the M4 handled the corners. The X-Drive was fantastic as there seemed to be unlimited front grip. I had the suspension set to the softest settings to absorb the bumps a little bit better. Still, I recorded a maximum cornering force of 1.27 Gs at 73 Kph on a 120 degree right hander, on partially melted tires, and 1.43 Gs at 108 Kph on the fastest corner of the track when the tires were fresh.

I Think there was at least another second to be found on this track, but I ran out of tires before I could find out. Maybe next time

For now though, I'll take the fastest stock production car time at that track.

I used the race box mini which worked well enough. This is the data from my final session:

Vehicle BMW M4 Competition X-Drive
Duration 10 minutes
Max/Min Speed 197.5 / 24.1 kph
Max Lateral/Cornering G 1.19 / 1.49
Theoretical Best Lap 1:18.10
Weather 24.0 °C, 1014 hPa, 57 %

Awesome! It's impressive what these cars can do right out of the factory, and there's no way to find that out until you hit the track.

That Model 3 had extensive mods hence the "modified" next to the car name, plus he was on semi-slicks. His mods:

Rear wing, front lip, 1 way street adjustable coilovers, modified front brakes, suspension bushings, ADVAN A052 tyres

I wouldn’t call those extensive mods.
Now if they were rocking the copper top batteries and the battery boost button… maybe.

Good time on stock car for sure. Wonder if you had different stock tires, how much better you would do considering how many people have low marks on the Pirelli’s

With those times and speeds, I assume that must be for the Driver Development track and not the Grand Prix circuit. Also there many possible layouts at that track, so it is not straightforward to compare lap times.

I am also curious, the text says “theoretical best lap”, so was this an actual lap or a software extrapolation? Do you have a video of the lap?

the 350z here is the biggest wonder... it appears to have stock power (only 287 HP) and that is a 20 year old car lol... even with slicks it beat a GT3 by a LOT

It was the full track layout as they only run that layout on BYOC days. Theoretical best lap just puts your best sectors together for the best possible lap time that could be achieved on that particular RaceBox recording session. The fastest time that I set on the second lap of that session was 1:18:08 which race box rounded to 1:18:10.

I did take a go pro to the track and had a head strap and recorded quite a bit of footage. Turns out I had mounted it too high on my head and it basically only recorded the roof of my car.

Tires make a massive difference, if I was on Corsa's or Cup 2s, I would have gone a lot faster. On semi slicks like R888Rs or what that Tesla used, it would have been even faster.

That 350Z is not stock lol. It's a built race car that is not road legal, has 500 WHP with racing slicks and full aero kit. Here's the video of his lap:

People don't get how quick these cars are. The suspension suck but there are good coilovers alternatives (Ohlins!) and BBK's and once you switch those out, it's game over.

Friend of mine has been tracking at LRP for a decade. Audi S5, 996 GT3, Alfa Giulia, Golf R, Miata with a 4.9 cobra engine (yes really) and now his modded Model 3 Performamce.

His favorite remains the GT3, but not by much over the Tesla.

Are you thinking of Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (Mosport)?

Toronto Motorsports Park (Cayuga) only has one short track and a drag strip.

Congrats, Nice to see what these cars can do right out of the box. What mileage were on the tires before you ran them?

Killed a set of BMW supplied Continental Tires on an M-Lite M240 by lunch on day 2 at the Greer SC Driving school.

Unless you're super experienced, it's not the car -- it's the driver.

At autocross one year, one of the instructors posted a better time in my lowly 320ix than other noobs in F80 M3s...

2800 Kms on the tires before the track. I had done quite a bit of side ways action before the track day, but didn't have any trouble with rear traction at the track.

Was this the DDT or the big track? I was there a few weeks ago in a 992 GT3 and ran a 1:31 … and felt that I was pretty fast (albeit still lots of room to improve).

1:18 on the big track in an M4? Wow !!

Yes indeed, my bad, I did not even know about that Toronto Motorsport track. I was wondering how a 1:18 could be achieved on either Mosport tracks

I did record a bunch of footage with a go pro strapped to my head, but it was still way too high and it dealt with exposure horribly, it's unusable.
