Good deal. As it sits, I'm still the only one I know of with a full engine replacement thus far. Continuing to follow.

Just curious, with one bearing replaced, did they specify another break-in period? Glad you got your car squared away.

I can't imagine he'd need another break in with the bearing replacement.

posted this in the other recall thread but people appear to be active on both so i thought i would share.

My service advisor called me not long ago to inform me my car is done. This is the time line for my cars repair.

01/31 Drop Off, no work done
02/01 no work done
02/02 Parts were ordered
02/03 Main parts arrived some missing hardware arriving tomorrow. Engine opened up to start repairs the following day. Told me a finish date of 02/07
02/04 worked on the repair/ failed to provide me and update at end of day (not a big issue).
02/07 confirmed my car was ready (30 min ago). Checked my BMW App and they had indeed road tested the vehicle based on mileage

When i pick up the car tomorrow I will scan to my email and post the full repair order they will be providing me with. This should help outline what is done to an engine that is repaired and not replaced.

Anybody have advice on the best way to reach out to BMW about this? Should I email their customer service or call them to open a case regarding customer satisfaction on a brand new car needed this level of repair and the uncertainty that comes with it.

If you are an owner, consider reaching out to BMW USA. No experience personally but over the years I've heard of others getting attention from them. https://www.bmwusa.com/contact-us.html

A dealer replaced 4 of my bearings couple weeks ago. When I took it back, I noticed knocking noises on cold start. I took it to another dealer and they found metal shavings in my oil filter. They are requesting engine replacement. Waiting on bmw to approve.

Yeah man. Heard the knocking the morning after. It wasn't the normal direct injection noise. I would rather them just replace the engine with good parts on there already. It's just annoying. Only have 4k miles on it

Eesh. This is why I’m glad I got a full motor swap. Sucked to wait, but this is frightening. Good luck. Keep us posted!

Still waiting on bmw approval. They want more pictures, videos, and testing. How long did it take yours?

30 days exactly from when I dropped the car off to when I picked it up. Motor came way quicker than I ever expected.

Was it same issues as me? Or do they just chose to replace engine instead of doing main bearing recall

BMWNA engineers determined the fix for my main bearing shell recall was a motor swap. They pulled it apart to do the fix, but the TSARA case required them to send pictures to the engineers. The motor replacement decision doesn't come from the dealership.

In your case, assuming they followed the TSARA guidelines, the engineers simply determined to replace your bearings. If they did follow the required protocols and simply replaced your bearings, it sounds like they miscalculated and either didn't get accurate pictures or simply made the wrong call.

Now if your dealership didn't follow the protocols and decided on their own to swap your bearings, I'd assume BMWNA isn't going to be too happy with them. If they did it without BMWNA approval, and the motor now needs to be replaced, the dealership may get tagged with the expense. Obviously this is all speculation on my part.

I am assuming this core issue is going to be rectified with cars that have yet to be built..

It was only a small % of parts affected not all cars fall into this if my memory serves me well only some MY22 Are affected. I think from May-July or something along that timeframe.

Side note: I dropped mines today pics/videos were sent to bmw today, they are assuming just parts replacement per my SA will
Know for sure tomorrow I’m Hoping.
