San Marino blue is slightly darker, and definitely has more purple in it. Both colors are stunning in person, but SMB seems to shift colors more.

I love both MBB and SMB. SMB was my favorite until I saw MBB in person. For me MBB wins by a slight margin but i wouldn't hesitate having SMB either.

SMB looks different depending on lighting and angle. The one down side for me is that in certain angles the metallic flakes is so strong that almost makes it look green or purple chrome color. Makes it look less classy. MBB is just a rich looking blue no matter what lighting.

Looks beautiful

What are the chances BMW offer this as a standard color on the AWD version?? Please BMW!!

OP please find a Portimao Blue G8x (or G2x) and park next to it for a few comparison pics!! I cannot justify the $4k difference otherwise

You should justify it. MBB is a really special M color. Go see it in person.

It took some time for my dealer to get bmw to approve the color. They apparently had to reach out to one of the hq offices in N America.
Now I know it can be done, easier for me or anyone else to choose. I would think
As long as your dealer can work it out with the BMW HQ in your country you should be fine. My mate is looking at HS on his G80 and going through this process.

I think you are being too mean to PB! Its a good color! LOL. I got it on my M340 because it was "the best of the rest" in that palette and it has grown on me

That said I agree the "which other M car is it on" is no reason to prevent a color on another M car.

MBB IS amazing, its amazing on OPs car, and would have been a great M exclusive color for the G8X
I disagree lol. It's so boring and it's laziness that they didn't give us a better "M specific" blue.

They gave us so many cool colors and PB seems like an afterthought.

You know I'm not one to unduly complain.

Personally I think his pics already show enough for me to feel that this is a better color than PB and worth the price, but yes lets see the comparo pics

I searched my area for all M5/M8/X5M/X6M trying to find a MBB to go check out this weekend but didn't find any

I really want blue on my AWD G80 and want to see all possible color options in person before ordering in the next few weeks

Thanks for posting that PB vs MBB comparison pic... MBB is definitely a better/more special color to my eyes. The question I guess is whether it's $4000+ better/more special. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer.

MBB is more special, but like you say, is it worth to pay that much more?
It's a question of taste. If you really can't stand PB and want a nice blue MBB is the way to go (it's a little cheaper than San Marino, at least in Switzerland).

I was between PB, IOMG and Black. I went with Black but would have totally also be happy with PB or IOMG.

I like PB, don't know why so many people complain...it looks special imo.

I currently own a M340i G21 in PB and I'm waiting for the delivery (end of April) of my new M340i G20 in MBB

In Switzerland, on a M340i, PB costs CHF 1290.- whereas the MBB costs CHF 4240.- so a difference of CHF 3000.-. So for me, it's worth it as it's a simple way to get a unique car

But BTW PB is a very nice color!

Side by side PB looks a little washed out compared to MBB. Stand alone PB looks good, in the frozen finish PB looks fantastic.

Thank you so much for posting these pics! MBB is definitely deeper & more special than PB but to be honest I cannot justify the +$4k delta. Again I hope BMW decide to make it a standard color on the AWD as it'll be an easy choice for me.

Having seen PB on an M3 in person I still like it and don't care that our "poor friends" have it on their 3 & 4 series. I know that mine will be ceramic coated and kept clean so it'll turn heads anyway

That's the problem with these individual colors, it's often not possible to see them in person. I had to take a best educated internet picture/video guess on ordering Enzian blue. I'm hoping it looks as nice when I finally get to see it in person.
