Installed Thule Aeroblade Edge roof rails - the G20 parts fit!

So I mountain bike and I would never throw my bike in the trunk with how dirty rides can be in the PNW. For all my cars I usually install a hitch in the rear bumper but the G80 does not have any options and I think it would look bad with the way the diffuser covers the exhaust.

I tried the Seasucker but the fins on our roof makes mounting it a challenge and I did not want to risk it with all the flew the carbon roof has.

I wanted to go with the BMW roof rails because it would be a guaranteed fit but decided to risk trying the Thule Aeroblade Edge for the G20. Happy to report that it fits. I love how sleek it looks with how thin the blades are and the black color they come in. Ride noise was pretty good IMO, don't think I will need a fairing.

Here are some pics of it installed..It is super easy and took less than 30 minutes.

This is good to know. I will likely be needing a roof box for the a few treks out west with the wife daughter and dog so I was just shopping for racks. Thanks for the heads up!

Only a fellow car enthusiast from the PNW could understand why you'd want racks on an M3, but I feel you! Thanks for the head's up

Definitely good to know. I’ll be transferring my thule evo wingbar from my F36 to the M3 and based on research I just need a new fit kit. But was wondering if the g20 fit kit works on M3 - gld to know it does. Thanks!

Thats the same roof rack / bars setup I bought (and returned!) for my F82 - decent setup and I'll buy again when my G82 arrives.

Thanks for confirming it fits the new cars!

Ive never had a roof rack before. Whats the benefit over the thule over the oem bmw? I'm not seeing anything obvious to justify the 3x price?

I ride once or twice a month. I don't plan on leaving the bars on when not in use. Is this easier to remove?

I have used the same Thule rack on two E90's and two F32's and plan on putting it on the M3 next spring.
It mounts into the fix points on the roof, so there is no contact with the car.
Other than some wind noise and a mileage hit, it is fine.
If my car can't carry my mountain bike or an occasional kayak, it is of limited utility to me.
For the record, the OEM BMW racks are made by Thule.

OEM racks are much taller. In fact I may decide to replace mine come winter.

I'm impressed with how clean the car is considering the ground lol

Thank you!

I actually just ordered the stealth hitch for the g20. It looks close enough that a few wacks of the mallet will make enough clearance or an excuse to change the muffler.

Thanks for the confirmation that the Thule G20 parts fit the G80.

Just installed the AeroBlade Edge 7602B with the 3174 Adapter Kit on my '23 M3 xDrive and it fits perfectly. I'll be running the SnowPack Extender to mount my board when the time comes 👍🏼

Not so fun fact: the AeroBlade 7602B only comes in single Qty's. You have to buy each rail individually. I almost pulled out a loan when I found out I had to buy a second rail lol

Thank you for the post! The noise isn’t too bad and once I get over 75/80 the wind noise overpowers the whistle.

I used fit kit 3174 off Amazon; not sure if there’s a difference but it said it’s for a g20 and worked perfectly.

Hey all - just wanted to say thanks for this thread! Was able to source parts and install same day at Outdoor Sports Center in CT. Everything was perfect; I did add lock cylinders on top of the items mentioned above.

@thule AeroBlade Edge 7502B (2x)
@thule Fit Kit 183174

That is soooo cool! I have a alpine white M3 as well, is the Vector Alpine too long for M3? I'm debating between Vector M and Vector Alpine.

ps: Your image link does not work, I saw the pic via pasting it into my browser "https://imgur.com/a/tXWQY28#RABHB4l"

Hey all,

Awesome stuff, thanks for the shares. Taking delivery on a new G80 this summer and have several questions for any of you:

How do these aftermarket mounts stack up to the OEM roof rack mounts from BMW?

Are the Thule, Rhino Rack, and BMW mounting systems for the accessories like snowboard racks & MTB racks all universally compatible (I.e. the monorail with tightening screws?) I ask since I already own Rhino’s snowboard and MTB racks.

Lastly, I have a pretty heavy 50lb YT Decoy e-bike for which I got a rhino rack mount for last season. It’s one thing for BMW’s rack to potentially be “compatible” with a Rhino Rack mount, but for anyone with experience on this, will it be sturdy enough?

If there’s a large difference in sturdiness/quality, I’ll probably just go with Thule or Rhino. The advantage of going OEM is it can get residualized through the factory order before June 😜

Thanks

Hey, is the foot pack you’re using on the g82 still the 183174? I ask as Thule’s own site seems to indicate this foot pack will not fit the g22/g82 coupes… 🤦🏻*♂️

Hey all,
anyone with Thule rack have figured out how to make sure that you torque the first bolt to the prescribed 8nm? They only provide the 4nm wrench for the rest of the installation but 8nm is done with simple alloy tool.

I tried Thule customer service, but the only thing I got from them is that it is not designed for G82 because of carbon roof. When pointed out that G22 can be optioned with carbon roof they went silent

Cheers,
Adam

Update: after another 10 emails I finally got the right answer from Thule. Pasting it here for anyone's reference (this is about G22 rack on G82):

I have consulted the solution for your car with the technical department in Sweden and I have confirmed that the mentioned set will fit (if the car's year is 2021 and above). Torque wrenches are used for hooks on the roof edge, but when mounting to a mounting point in the car roof, the screw should be tightened with the included wrench, the length and structure of which does not allow for overtightening the thread.
