Help me decide please.
So this is the situation.
I've ordered a G80 M3 comp. in September 2022. IOMG with orange interior, fully specced out. For the last couple of months I was sceduled for build week 22. Now it changed again and they don't know when my car will be made. I'm getting sick of this and was looking at 2nd hand cars. There is a fully spec IOMG G80 comp for sale with 10k kms (6k miles) which would cost me 15k less. The only difference is it has the white interior and idrive 7. Should I cancel my order and get that car, or should I just wait and see. What makes it more difficult to cancel is that I have created a very good relationship with my salesperson at BMW over the years so it would make me a little sad to do him like that |

Why not wait and get the car you want? I waited 9 months for my car.

Relationship with salesperson is a myth.

I’d personally wait it out.
I originally ordered a 2022 m3cx back on Nov of ‘21. Car was supposed to be built by Mar ‘23. However, the build date kept getting pushed out 3-4 times to ultimately bmw cancelled the order without explanation in July ‘22. I later learned that the ‘22 production was cancelled in preparation for the model year switch to ‘23 with idrive 8. Had to resecure an allocation via escalation to BMW Canada and reorder a ‘23 from scratch. I was in limbo for about a month until they dealer received and allocation. Car was reordered and ultimately delivered on Nov’22. So about a 12 month wait…and so very worth it as it is the exact spec I wanted. |

Do you have a production number? If so, isnt your dealer able to see the delayed build week info?
At least in the US, any production number comes with the target build week and the dealer will be able to look at the latest information at any given time. |

Second, 15K (I presume that's in Euros) is a lot of money, and 6K miles isn't that much ... but I guess that depends too on what model year the car is, how long you intend to keep it, how many miles you plan to put on it. So to me, it comes down to how much importance you place on the color of the interior, and if you are willing to wait for an unknown amount of time to get your car. I can't answer those questions. I will tell you, just for perspective, that I bought my M4 (my second G82) out of dealer stock because I couldn't get an allocation and I didn't want to wait. The interior color (red) was not my first choice, or even in the top 5 color choices had I ordered it, but I honestly really like it a lot now that I have it. Best of luck.

Wait it out. You still did not answer the question tho. Do you have the production number?

So white interior means more time to maintain. If you can live with that then it’s an easy decision. The harder decision to me would be ID7 vs ID8. Looks aside (although important), waiting and going with ID8 opens you up to future features as BMW phases updates to ID7 out and focuses on ID 8.5 and then eventually 9. The hardware in the ID8 system is faster and will be able to support more features in the next few years than ID7, which I don’t think will get any more updates. I’ll give you an example, all the future features of Apple CarPlay that were recently shown. It’s likely ID7 will not be supported.

I don't know. I personaly know nothing. Only that they had a production date for my car. They don't give me any other information. If I tell him about this forum and how you guys know everything, he tells me that it doesn't work like that in Belgium. Not sure if I believe that but OK

As annoying and painful it is, I would highly suggest waiting another few months for the car and spec you want. You’ve already done the hard yards and a couple more months isn’t gonna break it and will absolutely be worth it. I ordered and waited 11 months for the spec and car I wanted and when it finally arrived I was unfortunately not in a position to get it and had to forgo the car. Another 10 months later when I was ready, I was fortunate enough to get a brand new dealer spec car (ironically IOMG with orange interior 😜 and even though I absolutely love it now, there is still that itch of not getting the spec and car I wanted. It’s always gonna be there until I reorder one.

Unless you need the car for whatever reason, wait it out and get what you want. I had the same agony with my 911 and I finally got my car specced waiting for production later this month. I have looked at so many used ones as a “compromise” but to get exactly what you are aspiring to is very satisfying - especially if you take into consideration the amount of money these cars cost nowadays!

I personally prefer the dash controls of ID7 over 8. I was in your predicament too. One of the deciding factors for me as well was Canadian luxury tax on new vehicles. The ‘22 had 7500km on it and was specced how I would have ordered it mechanically.
Orange interior I loved, but my SO didn’t care for it. Too bad she isn’t the one who dailies it so it was a no brainer. |

I think for me it would be worse to get color or specs I didn’t really want and still pay a lot of money then just wait and get what I wanted.
It personal decision and u may feel different but I know I would question my decision for long time. |
