Aint nothing wrong with having a heavy pedal, as long as you can afford all that petrol.
Wouldn't have bought this amazing machine if I couldn't.

it's not about being able to afford a lot of gasoline, it's just about avoiding wasting money and petrol, putting tons of CO2 into the air, and having a good range when you don't need to or can't go fast and use the full power of the engine (traffic, speed limits, driving with family, and so on). It's about smart use of the car and avoiding waste, that's all.
When you want to feel 500 hp, you don't care about fuel economy of course, but it is hard to believe that it is necessary or possible to use 500 hp every single time you drive the car.

Not sure if I use 500hp every time I get in the car, but probably 490. :

Average person drives about 14.2k miles per year according to KBB.

Using CA as a high average, the average gas price is around $4.59 per gallon of premium (91 or 93 depending on where you're at).

At 10 mpg (low end, aggressive driving habits) that's around (14,200 / 10 * 4.59 = $6,517.80 per year on fuel.

At 20 mpg (mid range, conservative driving habits) that's around (14,200 / 20 * 4.59 = $3,258.90 per year on fuel.

At 30 mpg (high end, very conservative driving) that's (14,200 / 30 * 4.59 = $2,172.60 per year.

So somewhere between $2,000-$4,000 per year difference on gas, or $181-$362 per month. Obviously the difference is far less if you're not paying CA fuel prices.

Dunno about the rest of you but I've spend a lot more than $362 per month on dumber stuff that was less essential than transportation. Might as well have fun.

I'd also point out that if an extra $362 per month is make-or-break for you, you have highly questionable financial decision making skills buying one of these.

edit : fucked up the math a couple times, you'll have to forgive the lack of caffeine + hangover combo when I posted this the first time. Still, I think the point / gist of it stands up regardless.

Pretty sure the spirited driving sessions didn't help, but I'm just happy I'm close to 20mpg
