Steve Thomas - Waitlist

I got on the Steve Thomas waitlist for an M3 mid-Dec 2021 and was #11 on the list. This will be my 3rd M3 from them and, unfortunately, the 3rd SA I've worked with. Half a year later, I'm #4 on the list (from my understanding they did not receive any allocation for May and June).

There's no formal list or anything so I can only go by the SA's word. Any one else on the list there, or in a similar situation where the dealer gets 0-2 allocations consistently per month? Are allocations based on M3, M4, competition, etc? I know Steve Thomas moves quite a bit of M's so I was hoping they'd get more allocation.

I wasn't in a rush or anything but super disappointed about the ~$3k price bump for 2023 models. There goes my options for carbon buckets

Your CA should be able to show you the order bank, which shows exactly where you are in line…and all the cars ahead/behind.

The buckets are my favorite thing about this car. Is there anything else you'd consider taking off the options list instead? Assuming of course you've sat in them and find them comfortable.

That's what I keep reading about the buckets I haven't sat in them but hoping to find a car optioned with one at a nearby dealer. Even when I find one, they won't let people sit inside

I'm sure I'd have to rebuild based on 2023MY. I already optioned my base model with limited options so it'll be difficult to give/take some options.

I was roughly number 9 on their waitlist in November and got my allocation April 1st.
I don’t believe many dealers received allocations for May June with all the delays. (Even if they did I’d imagine they will still be bumped to a 23) I was scheduled week 18-26-25-26 and now nothing. I’m most likely going to be a MY23 unfortunately.

I worked with Tyler over there who has been nothing short of amazing with communication throughout the process. But dealers can only give what they receive and unfortunately it’s a crappy time for new cars.

Just be patient and eventually you’ll get an allocation that will send you into the next step of the forever waiting game.

Oh. And for the buckets just search for a used M3/M4 in the area. You may need to drive 10-20 miles but it’ll be worth it sitting in them so you don’t have any regrets.

Thanks for the insight! Glad a few members here are close to me on the waitlist. Hope you have your build scheduled soon.

Looks like they got 1 allocation for July, so we've moved up the list by one- you're now 3 and I'm 4.

I stopped by the dealership this morning and asked (and watched them refer to the list).

They said my allocation would most likely become available in September, with delivery (just) before the end of the year, unless anyone ahead of me drops out.

Buckets

I was going to add that I've sat in the carbon buckets on a few occasions, and it's going to be a highly individual choice- it's not as simple as 'get them', even though they're very cool and nice looking.

You REALLY need to get at least a little seat time in them before you decide.

In my case, while I fit well enough, lumbar support wasn't great for my 50+ year old back, and the thigh bolsters are a serious pain to get over while getting in and out as others have mentioned. I fear that the leather there will wear extremely quickly, and the effort to get in and out would get old quickly for a daily.

So in my case, buckets are out- I've also sat in the sport seats, and they are excellent, though not quite so racy as the buckets.

They're also available in Tartufo, which I also really like.

Genuinely nice that you're local to the dealership, and sending updates; really appreciate it! I didn't even bother asking my SA about allocations since I read most dealerships received 0 most likely due to the 2023MY transition.

Finally one negative (but certainly valuable) feedback about the buckets! With my driveway, unfortunately, I have to play tetris a few times out of the week so, yes, getting in and out within a couple seconds each time I'm sure I will hate with buckets. With the MY $ increase and small increases for the other options I had in mind, getting buckets will really be pushing it so that definitely makes it easier for me to just opt for sports seats.

Allocations

I put a deposit down on January 28. Was told I was #10 on the waitlist and should expect to receive an allocation in August based on then current trends. I contacted Vanessa Lopez, the internet sales manager who I worked with, yesterday. I was told I was now #9 on the waitlist and would probably get an allocation next year. I reminded her that I was #10 in January and asked if she was telling me they had had only one allocation in five months. She said that was the case. Doesn't seem consistent with OP moving from #11 to #4 unless all the movement was January allocations. I guess I will check back again. This is very frustrating.

I checked my email history and was #8 in late Jan and now #3 so moved up 5 spots in 5 months. I was #11 when I made my deposit mid Dec.

Was frustrating for me as well (reason why I started this thread) and glad I found others on here (with eyes there) on the same list!

Based on the details you mentioned, you should be right behind myself and mthused. If not, either way, moving up 1 spot within the last 5 months doesn't sound right either.

Seems like Steve Thomas didn't get any August allocation. Still #3 on the list.

They were one of the so called high volume dealers I called back in January. At first the CA told me they had one in that I could look at but then be called back and said the customer had already picked it up. Good of him to do that; saved me a 90 minute drive and ragging on him. To their credit, the sales manager called me a week later but they could not do any better than put me on their list.

Overall impression with Steve Thomas: Good. Not jerks like Riverside and the "Beach" located dealerships.

Continuing in last January, BMW of Ontario had an allocation but wanted MSRP+$7.5K. I seriously considered it but then I saw a post from Dave Townsend of BMW of Murrieta here on Bimmerpost and pounced. While they were processing my credit and taking my credit card deposit on the phone two other parties were put on hold.

Picked the car up yesterday. MSRP; no BS whatsoever; my expired loan rate lock was even honored without my having to ask.

My car was one of 4 M4s that arrived there from the VPC on the same truck early Friday.

Got my M3!

I went to the dealership today and was asking about allocation timing since I've been first on the list for a bit.

I actually ended up buying the Lime Rock Grey 50 Jahre Edition they happened to have just received, so everyone after me moves up...

Loving the new car!

Was an excellent experience all around from the dealership and James Miller as SA!
