Single Turbo Experience

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I’ll start by saying, “so far”

2023 G82 M4 XDrive
Leading in, here's the quick history:: I've had the car for just over 1 year... every mod so far has been to make it faster so I started with ECU unlock, BM3 top-hat flex fuel kit, DPs and Midpipe along with a Paul Johnson tune (flex from 93oct to e55 for max power). then did a switch to BoostLogic DP and full titanium exhaust. I've made videos explaining the steps along the way, from how to log... to the actual cost of "Downpipe Tune."

My focus is 1/4 mile and Mexico roll races (definitely Mexico)... so I wanted to see what I can do with the 60-130. Best I've gotten on a cold winter night here in Texas with the "DP and Tune" has been a 5.69

I looked into several Single Turbo kits... there are some really high quality kits available... ViEngineering has a badass kit, Vargas will be able to use factory boost control so that's huge. KLM seems to be on just about every fast Supra and S58.

I decided on RK Autowerks @Sales@RKautowerks ... They're local-ish to me and I appreciate that they're looking to innovate with their own shop car. This is just the start for me so as those innovations take place, I want to be able to send my car up to Dallas and take advantage over the years.

I'm keeping the engine and trans stock and keeping it tame to begin with, setting up for success in the future (3.5L engine build, Stg3 trans, etc.). Because I'll be going big in the future the turbo selection was a Precision 7275 (orig was going with 6870)... that part is pretty easily changed. I also went with the RK intake manifold, Port injection, Motive+ for PI/Boost control and something new RK will be offering is their low pressure fuel system (I'll update later but I believe there are 3 pumps in there).

Tuning the new kit will be a visit by Mike Botti to the RK shop on Sunday. He's done well in the STI community followed by the Supra (he has the fastest Supra currently) and tuned RK's shop car.

Attached a couple pics RK Autowerks took. I'll be traveling for work til Thursday and go get it then and can post impressions on my way back... I'll be at TX2K having some fun as well.

Happy to answer questions, traveling this week so I'll get them done in bunches. Didn't see a ton of info out there on the Single Turbo options so I thought I'd share what I can.

Update: made some good power… stock engine and trans. I pick it up tomorrow then can give driving impressions

Nice, looking forward to seeing your results on this part of your build. We've chatted a few times on IG.

That's a Big ole precision turbo! Are you planning to do any engine work? What's the near term goal and future?

I will keep the engine stock for this season then go 3.5L built engine next season. Just going to keep it tame for the short term. I spoke to another tuner that has experience with the 7275 and there wasn't much concern about lag/spool

Awesome build. Was interested in swapping out my F90 for a G82 and building it single turbo. I too will be at TX2K with some friends who are racing. Hopefully we cross paths and can have a chat!

I'm guessing turbo lag is increased and low rev response (torque) decreased? Thanks

Slightly… it’s my 2nd car… my daily is a Tesla plaid so I don’t really care
Could go smaller turbo and have even better than stock response
