A special manual M3? M3 Pure?
Probably a 50 Jahre edition.

G80 M3 LCI start of production: July 2022.

See here ("Likely production schedules for the G87 M2, G80 M3, G82 M4 and their LCI facelifts").

Man I remember the days when they would take 8 years for LCI, and it would just be painted bumper moldings 😂

Since it is seemingly a manual, I am beyond intrigued.

The exhaust seems louder in the video, could it be a North American only car?

lemetier Can you give us a few hints/info. Thanks!

Yes if judging what we know about the CS as it is currently.
There is a lot here on show that's does not make sense and this feels like an older prototype on the video.

What : ???

The entire lifecycle of the M3 is usually less than 8-years. There always was rather significant changes to the M3 during its lifecycle stsrting with the E30, some were as radical as engine diplacement increases. Starting with the 4-door E90 M3, it has been seeing a rather early LCI because being released after the coupe, its LCI coincides with the base series sedan. This is nothing new...

Is this because BMW already delayed launching the G series M3 to the point that they have to now jump straight to an LCI G series M3?
Are there exterior updates expected?
The F80 M3 launched as a 2015 MY. The LCI came in MY 2016. The only difference is that the G80 launched with a base and comp model. The F80 only had a base model in 2015 while 2016 brought the LCI and the Comp pack as an option. Same thing on the E90 if it makes you feel better. 2008 MY launch, LCI in 2009.

A CS is never "just" a Comp+ it's a lot more than that. Limited numbers means few will ever know that.
The M2 CS is a more enjoyable drive for sure, but it's not a transformed car by any means, and it's not 20-30k better.

I can't put a price tag on the "better" but I'd say it's significant. Any review of a CS will tell you that. In fact I don't recall a review where they are busy comparing it to the Comp, they are typically too blown away with the CS to bother. That said I agree that BMW over prices them, but they are spectacular buys two years out.

Is the M2C better than the M3C in terms of the enjoyment factor?
I am scared that I will get bored with the M3C quickly.
How is the M2 CS compared to the M3C?

You should drive for yourself instead of relying on reviews. All the reviews are written primarily to generate revenue first, and to inform second. That doesn’t mean they cannot be accurate, but we are talking about differences in degrees.

To me, both the F80 CS and the F87 CS are simply better resolved versions of the cars they are based on. Cumulative various changes add up to a better driving experience, albeit not fundamentally dissimilar from the Competition versions. F87 changes are a bit easier to spot in regular driving because of the EDC and big change in power. The F87 CS tune being more similar to the F80 ZCP tune, it is also fairly linear and that adds to the feeling of being easier to drive (it is different from the F80 CS tune).

Whether any CS is worth the asking price, depends. To me it seems clear that the way the market has spoken, many enthusiasts prefer a smaller AND lighter CS with a manual option and are prepared to pay the steep asking price for this. Half of the M2CS sales are manual I think, that is the missing half of the F80CS sales BMW was looking for. If I were them I wouldn’t even bother with a G80 CS if auto-only. And yes the transmission can absolutely handle the extra torque. If they were so worried about it they could simply implement a torque reduction by gear arrangement like Ferrari and Alfa.

Just my opinion of course.

No need to be scared, BMW will be happy to take your money for a new car anytime. The M2CS is a much more fun car to drive, and not as refined or luxurious. You might get bored quickly with the rougher edges too. Only you can tell.

Ok thanks, I have 2 kids and with an M2C although it's fun, it's hard to make long trips alone. I can only use it as a daily commuter but my drive to work is boring and I work from home most of the time. I do have a great X5 as a family car, super comfy and perfect for a relaxing drive.

I was looking at the M3C LCI and it looks like it will be available soon. Might switch to an M3C so that I can make long family trips and enjoy the car.

I can also do trips in my X5, but I am not enjoying the idea of my M2C being just a daily driver to work. I would prefer it to take it to highway-1 in CA or drive to other cool places, however I can't make those trips with family in a small coupe.

Wouldn't it make sense for G80 LCI to line up with G82 and not with G20? I'll be surprised if there is a G80 LCI in 2022.

The G80 will likely get a second LCI "lite" when the G82 does since it shares the same front bumper and headlights but the biggest changes would come from when the G20 LCI occurs mid next year.
