They told us they weren't kidding with the X7 concept, the iNext concept, the 4 series concept, the i4 concept, the Vision M concept. I'm probably missing 1 or 2. And now with the production ready 4 series, M4 and M3.

They are committed to in your face grills.

Anyone who thinks an LCI is going to get a grill treatment you are going to be extremely disappointed.

I wish that the grille was the only thing bad about the G8x.

Couldn't disagree more. The height is what give them presence.

Any photoshop experts able to do a nice pshop keeping the grille it's regular size but filling or changing the mouth and side intakes?

I made some rough edits on iPhone to given an idea but I think large grilles can work. It's just the side intakes and mouth that should be tweaked. I haven't seen anyone do a render where the grille stays how it is but the center mouth is adjusted.

I love the front of this new G80. But I'm also someone who loves big Audi grills, so maybe that's why I really like the big G80 grill.

I think that entire intake below the grille is necessary for air flow though. I'm pretty sure the only part of the grille/mouth that isnt functional is a thin bar across the middle of the grille where the euro plate is mounted. So any kind of grille redesign would probably have to shrink the grille and separate that lower front fascia. Not to mention these are the design cues the i4 is using (which doesnt even need grilles/intakes ) so they are here to stay.

I actually made a sketch yesterday. I don't think it is too drastic. It literally just slides the side intakes more laterally. Shouldn't be hard to still allow proper air flow.

I wonder if that bar will be removable in the US and Canada, or if they will have something else for the much smaller plates. I'd rather just have the bar gone and have it like the rest of the grill. Although I don't have a front plate, many that have to mount one were thinking they'd just utilize the tow hook, and not mount it over the grill.

Behind the europlates is the front impact bar, even if you removed the plastic, you would just see a metal bar instead.

Yeah, I figured there would be something more structural behind it.

A number of car makers offer alternative/different grills and front ends for different variants of their cars.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if BMW offered a traditional kidney grill alternative. Too interesting as it would likely show up the horrible design direction that BMW has been traveling.

When I am ready to trade in my 2018 530e, it won't be a BMW if the only option is bugs bunny/Edsel grills.

Scott- the gates of hell are merely the most visual sign of the times having changed so much at BMW, this model is now bigger, longer, heavier, and wider than an E39 M5, which is fine, but what happened to the M3? Aka a sporty small coupè/ saloon???? All that history thrown away for

I believe the whole is greater than the size of the grill.

It's almost a perfect M3. Some might judge that it is too big, too heavy. But it'll perform and drive like it should.

Let's fix that.

It's the same length, 5-inches wider, and 150lbs lighter than a E39 M5.

Hate it less, I have become much more used to it, it is not as offensive as the renders showed....but the M8/M5 or sketches from above just look better to me. I prefer subtle and the Gates of Hell are not subtle.

That being said, the manual is more of a factor in my purchase than the grilles, so I am happy with the car due to 6MT.

Any chance we get Euro Delivery back?

Maybe if you can rid the world of Covid and talk people into buying more cars than SUVs again.

Not sure the sale of SUVs is related to COVID so much as it is the American mentality that bigger is better. Look at any list of the top 10, even top 25 vehicles, sold in America last five years, and it Will be dominated by trucks (perennial top 3-4) then more SUVs than cars.

I’ll never understand 6 figure luxury/sport SUV’s. Absolutely ludicrous.

No, they are separate issues. You have twice the work to do. Things have been sliding towards SUVs for awhile now. There was a time where they weren't the gas and environmentally friendly choice, but apparently those times are a thing of the past.

As for the luxury SUV thing - my parents have matching Escalades and I have a $35k Jeep Cherokee. Granted theirs are inordinately larger, but I will say that they are a lot nicer. $65k nicer though? Not sure about that. I could see if I was going to have ONE car that I would spend more money (certainly not $100k+) on a nice SUV. More so Grand Cherokee or X5 type price range.
