Alignment after steering wheel install

Hey guys I just got a custom steering wheel installed and straight is slightly to the left. Have you any of you had to get an alignment after getting a steering wheel installed?

Sounds like whoever installed it installed it one tooth off from center. I dont think you need an alignment, but to take the wheel off and have it shifted to the right by one or two teeth.

Ok I’ll have them move it to the right one or two

That’s just my assumption. I’ve swamped steering wheels in the past and had to adjust it because it wasn’t totally centered afterwards.

The m1/m2 buttons are not working either and I’m getting this error Driver Assistance support reduced. Is that normal after installing the wheel I saw someone else say I need to drive the car around for a bit. I drove it for like 5 miles still not working

Does the new wheel have the assistance features with the core? Some wheels don’t have that

The wheel is keyed and can only go on in one position, it’s not possible for it to be off by a tooth. It’s normal for the m1/m2 buttons to not work immediately after the battery is disconnected and reconnected (which usually is done when removing the airbag) but that is resolved after driving for a very short time. It isn’t normal to have a driver assistance error after swapping the wheel. Possibly your vibration motor was not reconnected which causes this error because the wheel cannot vibrate for blindspot/lane departure warnings. You can get a much better idea what is wrong by scanning for codes with an app like BimmerLink or protool.

If it’s keyed why is it off slightly? Does it need an alignment? The vibration motor makes sense it’s giving me a blind spot error I’ll have them check that and make sure it’s connected.

No idea , an oem wheel or a wheel built with an oem core can only go on in one position. If it’s not an oem core than who knows.

If you’re getting a blind spot error then the issue is definitely the vibration function of the wheel.

Who did install? I think it's an installation error.

Lol, that’s not “slightly” off. Your installer is an idiot.

My thought exactly, he has crossed eyes !!! And how did you accept the car back after checking this also in question too .

As others mentioned, the OEM core wheel is one-way in and absolutely no way to insert it the other way.

It’s good now the wheel is an oem core and keyed we are not sure why it wasn’t straight everything was aligned. The vibration motor cable snapped causing the blind spot and m button errors. They Soldered the wires together and it works now. The car drives straight now too we are not sure what the issue was the first time.
