Thought this might be important to post incase someone decides to put a sub in their car. I recently installed a jbl basspro 12 inch amped sub. The sound is phenomenal now in my g80x. The thing that came up is the active sound design. Active sound design is exhaust/engine noise piped in through your speakers as most of us know. I do not enjoy ASD so I have bimmerlink to turn active sound off. However i was able to test the car and sub with ASD on and off.
The reason I posted this was because I had read a few posts saying that the active sound may be too loud with a sub. I don't enjoy active sound in general, but for those of you that do It's not too loud with a sub. It's slightly louder and has some drone with my set up but the quality of the sound of music is still good. I personally think the music and natural engine noise is better with ASD off, but for those of you that enjoy active sound and want a sub, well, you can have both. |

I actually have a sound guy here in Michigan, he installed it. Unfortunately I didn't take any pics. On that point though some shops say they wouldn't touch newer BMW's, Audi, or Merc. Don't listen to them, the job can be done. Someone who knows what they are doing will install a sub no problem. The whole install took a little over an hour.

Quick correction BimmerCode is used to code out ASD. Bimmerlink is more for monitoring DME PID’s.

Can you post pictures of post-install? Was the sub / amp install just a replacement for existing components and in the same locations? or were these in addition to factory equipment?

It's in addition to what was already in the car. The amp is built into the sub. Here's a pic, it's the best I got without moving the box all around. |
