I do know the current cars which have 8.5 (x5, X6) was delivered with 8.0 and received 8.5 OTA.

There’s an official article about it. So it’s possible you could get upgraded from 8.0 to 8.5. Currently only applies to certain models.

Not saying G80 will get it. Just saying it’s possible to upgrade from 8.0.

BMW has been quite transparent on this. The current G80/82/83’s will not get 8.5

It's not possible. BMW says it requires the newer headunit which our cars do not have.

Unless BMW decides to support it, which they've given every indication multiple times throughout the year that they're not going to, it's not happening.

Not disagreeing. My comment was more toward different operating system and BMW loading 8.0 on new hardware and then pushing 8.5 to cars including the M models X5, and X6. Earlier it was mention, not possible.

I find it interesting that they loaded new hardware in qualifying cars produced prior to August 2023 and then pushed 8.5 to them. In past they have not done that.

Who’s to say they are not loading the new hardware in cars produced in nov without telling us but still loading 8.0 on them. Similar to what they did prior to Aug 23.

I agree with this statement. It’s very possible, there’s more purchasing power for bmw to include the latest hardware in our unit when the old hardware will go obsolete

Logistics says they're not doing it. We'd know if it was a thing if we had new HUs. We don't have it. If we did, we'd know about it by now. There'd be a service bulletin, someone here would get some info and post it, etc. Hasn't happened and won't happen so close to LCI happening in the next 6 months. No reason to give anyone hope.

Except they still have to support that for other cars, so it's not any harder for BMW to support this so much that they'd rather put new HU models in.
