BMW North America no longer taking orders for MY23 M4?

I had originally tried to get an allocation through a local dealer for a 2023 M4 xDrive Competition. Sales guy originally thought he might have an allocation in a month or so but it turns out it was going to be 2+ months before he would get one. Checked with a few other area dealers and one dealership told me he would have 2 in January. Got my money back from dealer 1 and paid deposit to dealer 2....dealer 1 not happy.

Yesterday, I received a message from dealer 2: "We regret to inform you that BMW North America will be unable to fulfill your request for a MY23 M4. BMW is at the end of the production cycle for this model. They will be transitioning to the MY24 model, and this model could see some updates, such as iDrive 8. We can either hold your deposit and transition it to the MY24 and work with you to build that unit. Or we can refund this to you and we can reconnect at your convenience."

Of course, dealer 1 is still trying to email me and I basically told him what dealer 2 said and he responded by saying that has not happened yet and they never had an open allocation for January as they had promised.

Not sure who to believe and in the long run, not that big of a deal but I have never liked car salesman to begin with and I not sure who to trust at this point. Any idea if what either of them are they are saying is correct?

transition to MY24 begins I believe with March production, so all MY23 allocations are done. Next round is for MY24

Why are they cutting the MY23 cycle so early? Is it to implement the iDrive 8 onto the M4?

because that's what they're doing for the 4 Series (also the X5/X6) and has happened before. I remember the E90 MY2010 was also short. Not sure if this is LCI or just a refresh to iDrive 8

And I suspect that the 2024 will carry a heft price increase of 5% or more.

I dont see any reason for it to be different than the MY23 M3.

That design is out there in the i modes and also in the M3s. I highly doubt there is going to be any major changes couple of years into the G8x cycle.

OP, sorry to hear that your car will be delayed further.

I find, generally, that I can trust what my SA tells me, I've been working with him for years, and usually it's a misunderstanding of what he said, what he meant to say and what I heard. And so often, they coach their statements in vague generalities, like a politician.

"Sorry, but it appears that BMW might not be able to do what you asked, due to supply constraints or maybe the weather, if the forecast goes as planned, unless something changes. "

However, because it's all about me, me, me! Thank you for making me feel better about jumping in and buying my M4 out of dealer inventory (and out of state) last month rather than waiting for my allocation to get, um, allocated. I'm #5 on the list, last I heard.

LuvMyE92: think I will be doing the same and just start watching all the car sites and purchase when I see one that has all/most of the options I want. Saw a few out there today and same as you, all we’re out of state.

There are still allocations available for 23 M4, you cannot get any individual options on the remaining 23s though. Would have to wait until you get MY24 allocation
