So there a usb c between the cupholders and in the arm rest as far as i know (waiting for my ordered car). Does anyone know what happens if you plug a thumb drive into these outlets that have MP3s stored on them, which menu in the iDRIVE is responsible for playing media such as this? Also do the files have be in the root folder or do subfolders get read properly? Thanks in advance.

Cup holder usb is usb A. Arm rest and back seats in center console are usb c.

Usb a thumb drive can read music in my testing.

Does the music sound better this way or is it the same as playing it through bluetooth?

Theoretically, yes.

If you play higher bit rate or lossless music through USB it should sound better than music streamed via bluetooth. That’s what I do and I think the HK system (coded for the B & W settings using Bimmercode) sounds pretty good.

Streaming music over bluetooth is fine but my ears can hear a difference and my brain knows it.
