Traffic lawyer in Monterey?

Hey, all… any recommendations for a good traffic attorney that works in Monterey county? I got a BS speeding ticket from the CHP while traveling on their Hwy 1 Revenue Generation Zone, and while I could pay the fines and use traffic school to make it go away… I’d rather fight it.

There’s an app called “OffTheRecord”. I’ve used it about 4 times and they always get the ticket dismissed. No need to go to court, they handle everything.

I've used the ticket clinic before. I think all they do is keep extending your court date till the officer forgets about you.

For those that have used OTR, what was their communication like? I don’t want to worry about babysitting this…

I’ll follow up on this thread: the ticket was dismissed yesterday. I used Off The Record (thanks for the recommendation!), who put me in touch with Fight My Ticket to appear for me in Monterey county. Cost was $350. So even though traffic school was an option for this ticket, it absolutely made sense to contest it.

Anyway, a good outcome. Excellent communication from Fight My Ticket: highly recommend!

I third Off the Record. $350 is super steep. Maybe it was just your area. I'm in Sac, and it was $99. Communication was great for me. The app is setup like a text messenger thread. You just reply inline. I text OTR, then they told me the price, I agreed to it, then the lawyer joined the same thread, and told me what he was going to do. They went to court for me, and it was dismissed.

Definitely varying costs due to geography, as OTR’s network of lawyers connects you with someone who serves the relevant court, and that lawyer sets the price.

That $99 was a helluva bargain! For me, the ticket itself was $302, before adding the cost for traffic school… so $350 for a lawyer was a no-brainer (assuming success). It’s entirely possible (probable?) that traffic lawyers set their fees according to the fine.

Oh, you still did traffic school? Mine was totally dismissed. In fact, at the time, my license was up for renewal, and I was just going to go down on my day off, and get it taken care of. Well, they told me I needed to retake my written test. I said, what the hell?

Apparently, if you get a speeding ticket you need to retake. I said, skip that, I'll come back. In the meantime, my ticket was dismissed, and the next time I went to the DMV, expecting to take the test, they renewed without question, no test.

FYI btw even if something makes it onto your record, you can contact the DMV after a couple years and get it expunged well before it would drop off on its own.

How do you go about doing this? Do you have to physically go into dmv or just a phone call?

I went in physically. If I recall correctly, you can basically ask for a copy of your record, then review it with them and be like “ok, that one’s a settled matter and I’ve paid the fine and done traffic school blah blah blah” and they’ll go down the list with you and tell you the requirements or window for expunging each item. I don’t think it even cost me anything besides time and a bit of paperwork.

I have 1 ticket on my record from going 8 over in Idaho. I guess I’d probably have to talk to idaho dmv about that. Still thing I only got that ticket because I had Cali plates 😂

I’m sure everyone here is already on the same page regarding the value of a good detector. I run a Uniden R3, and in this instance it’d been going off for miles as I followed this CHP unit northward.

And that’s how I knew the speed measured by the officer’s rearward Ka wasn’t mine; I was taking it easy!

I don’t think CHP use rolling radar here in CA like they do in other states. I know they use visual estimation.
