The ///M product nomenclature strategy has been publicized a while ago:
Base -> Competition -> CS -> CSL (replacing GTS)
Yeah I remember that slide but couldn't find it - so GTS is dead, CSL revived.

Agree with the disappointment with the HP, but 540 hp is pushing the RWD— traction control will have to be less sensitive to engage. AWD would be too much weight.
There are a few front engine RWD 600+hp track focused cars that I can think of that perform fine. I was with a pair of ZL1 1LE this weekend, they seemed to cope with their 650hp quite well

The grill looks good in person. Stop being so dramatic

The E46 M3 CSL didn't have a DCT but the SMG.

If it's a replacement for the GTS, I'm disappointed with the power output. I was expecting 540 for the CS (to further differentiate from the ZCP) and 580 for the CSL
The e46 CSL only had 20 or 30hp more than the stock M3 and is the greatest car of all time made by BMW.

It's not about the power, it's about the weight with a CSL. This things needs to be on a serious diet to capture the essence of what the car is all about.

150hp extra would mean nothing if it was heavy and had bad traction

Much appreciated for the update.

Suspect that the M headlights might have yellow hue LED coloring, similar to the F90 CS, as manufacturing an entirely new headlight unit would not make financial sense— easier to modify an existing part.

I see the BMW Driving Experience adding the CSL to their fleet and charging a premium—I'm all in to travel to Germany for a track training event.

Rear seat will be stripped out like the former F82 GTS with a roll cage with racing bucket seats available.
The note about the different headlights piqued my interest. I wonder if they will be able to be retrofitted and coded to work with the G80s?

Most likely will be extremely cost prohibitive but would still be cool as a possibility.

It's not just about the weight, it's not just about the power, it's not about the roll cage, it's about the result of all the small changes that make the driving dynamics better.

F series CS and M5CS are prime exemple.

I hope being RWD only they allow for suitable size tyres out back. My M4GTS suffers greatly from power/chassis greatness to inadequate tyre size.

I think this has been highly rectified with the new chassis/wheel/tire combo on the G series.

We will see. I have a F90C and yes it is amazing due to AWD, period. I have a M2CS and it's amazing due to wheelbase and width to power with same tyre fitment as my GTS. I was really hoping the M x drive made it to the CSL. As you said l, it's not about the weight..

Not even the best M3. The E30 M3 Evo and E36 M3 Lightweight are more important and desirable M3s. How about an M1?

You gotta let go of the manual, like seriously. Manual is all but dead and there's no longer anything "proper" about a manual in a modern day high end sports car. We all drove them for years and it was fun. What you all should be upset about is BMW forgoing the DCT, which is "proper" in a modern day high end sports car.

So many questionable decisions by BMW the last few years 😔

This was my old one before I moved to the states. Unbelievable cars

I don't think an E30 M3 Evo or a LTW E36 even come close. CSL is the daddy, IMO of course!

M1 I will concede is an outrageously cool car but very unobtainable for pretty much most folks out there at this stage and not many can even claim to have driven one.

They likely won't offer a manual because they seem pretty insistent that this manual transmission can't reliably handle a ton of power and they wouldn't de-tune the CS power rating to offer a manual. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt they will offer a manual for that reason.

I'm amazed that BMW are making the CS again given the lack of consumer interest in the F8x. Honestly, kudos to BMW for continuing to make interesting/fun cars.

When you go over the six figure mark, the competition gets really heavy and that C8 Z06 is going to be a freaking monster.

However...if this came in a proper manual, that opens up the door to a lot more buyers.
3400 lbs C8 Corvette are pipe dreams. A Z51 weighs 3638 lbs on C&D scales making it a porker for its relatively small size compared to the G8x. People keep talking like the G8x is some kind of massively overweight car despite the fact that it's lighter than its direct competition and in the ballpark of smaller cars like the C8.

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...18-cayman-gt4/
You do realize the Z06 is going to have a smaller engine right?…

Naw you're correct. There's however one car that has me kinda retooling for my next car. I have a manual G80 right now and would love to have another performance oriented sedan with MT right next to it. For that reason I'd love to get my hands on the CT5-V Blackwing.
