The car isn't cheap. You should not have to learn to like it. Can you learn to like an ugly broad? I guess. But why?
No doubt. I have a similar challenge with my M4CS. It's perfect looking, makes good power, but it's DCT, which is a hyped up automatic transmission. At least I look at it every time I walk away. I miss my 6 speed E92 M3. Great styling and it made all the right noises, I could even live without the torque.

The G80 is a hard pass though, it could run a 9 second quarter mile and I'd still pass.
If you're looking at an M4 CS there is no hesitation. I have an M3 CS and the DCT is great it makes driving the car an event. Don't believe the bullshit that the ZF is as good. Not to mention the design of these cars is peak BMW.
The zf8 is better than the DCT imo.
Really? Interesting opinion. Do you have an opinion about when Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and Porsche will abandon the dual clutch in favor of the superior ZF? Are you certain your "opinion" isn't influenced by what you own and spent your money on? These forums can be great but can also be echo chambers.
I'm talking about my personal experience between my f80 zcp and my g82 competition. Simmer down, pal.
Perfectly simmered and my point stands. As written.
Okay, and so does my opinion, which I've formed by owning both cars. By the way, not sure why you put opinion in quotes before. Despite what you may think, it is in fact my opinion.

What do any of those cars have to do with BMW?!?!
That's a really silly remark that does nothing to advance the discussion. Just nonsense. You need it spelled out? You actually don't because you're just trying to obstruct. Here it is: BMW does not exist in a vacuum. ZF is not better than DCT; not in BMW world or anywhere else.
ZF is not better at what, exactly? Not every transmission is designed to do the same thing.

No, it's valid. Just because Ferrari, etc. aren't doing it doesn't make BMW's decision to jettison the DCT improper/invalid/ and it doesn't suggest there's no merit to going with the AT either. Extremely different focuses between the vehicles you referenced and BMW's target audience/objectives with a road going family car (…one whose AT transmission is 99% as good as the outgoing DCT).
Let me help you here. This is a BMW M3 we are talking about. You know….the descendant of the E30, E46, E92 etc. The fact that the 2021 BMW M3 Competition weighs 3800lbs, is the size of an older M6, and has no available manual or DCT is a direct result of people like you…the new "target audience" referring to the car as and expecting it to be a "family car". Wow. Just wow. An M3 is now a "family car" with a slush box only. And this insanity is being defended by the new "target audience". I really long for the days when this car was solidly for enthusiasts only and wish the new crop of buyers would just go away. If you want a family car keep Googling for the Accord forum. As an aside I have not even mentioned the horrid design of the car.

Love the passive aggressiveness. The default approach made by fragile people.

In any case, the prior/current M3 is still a dual purpose performance family car, just like it's Audi, Mercedes, etc. competition. The car is based off of BMW's family coupes and sedans, so why you're purporting it to be anything other than what it is ….is beyond me. It is not a dedicated sports car like my incoming Carrera S, a Ferrari, a Lambo, etc., which is another reason your comparison really makes no sense; transmission type is immaterial. It can comfortably seat 4 or 5 depending on the year referenced, be daily driven, provide adequate gas mileage, be taken on long road trips while providing adequate storage……all while providing adequate track performance. It is also LIGHTER than it's direct competition by hundreds of pounds. 'Tis the way of the world, and none of your passive aggressive elitism is going to change that, no matter how much you try to paint those of us who have been in ///M cars for decades as some "undeserving new breed" of drivers/owners.

P.S. Enthusiasts have families too, hence why the M3 has always been a compelling offering……you know, to motor their families around while simultaneously getting a taste of Motorsport.

Passive aggressive no. Just plain aggressive against destroyers of the brand. Spare us the amateur hour psycho babble trolling, nobody cares. An M3 is not a "family" car you're delusional. Stop trying to validate your bad decision to lay down cash on a big ugly sedan with a slush box. The M3 was historically a high performance car built on a sedan platform. Did I say it was a purpose built sports car like a 911? No. It's a high performance vehicle deserving of a high performance transmission. Like it is always had in past. Not a slush box. Period. Now stop talking you're boring.

Carry on internet soldier.
Period.

No, it's valid. Just because Ferrari, etc. aren't doing it doesn't make BMW's decision to jettison the DCT improper/invalid/ and it doesn't suggest there's no merit to going with the AT either. Help yourself and do your homework: NOT on the Competition. Nice try.
Oh, so you're saying that it *doesn't* only come with a ZF8?

That's crazy - I could have sworn you said the other thing.

Let me help you out here: it comes with a 6 speed.
Help yourself and do your homework: NOT on the Competition. Nice try.
Oh, so you're saying that it *doesn't* only come with a ZF8?

That's crazy - I could have sworn you said the other thing.
You're lost.

That's a good question. Yes I drove it. The car is too big for my taste. The F80 was at the limit of size for me. The ZF transmission is smooth and lightning fast on upshifts as reported everywhere. However it does not feel special, it lacks character and does not feel like an event to drive. The worst attribute is that it is not engaging to interact with manually. This is especially true on downshifts which are not sharp like they are with DCT and worse they are a fraction slower. That fraction is noticeable and really detracts from the connectedness of the car. As a result the transmission is best left in auto mode all of the time. That is really boring and unfortunate for a performance car let alone an M3. The engine is excellent, the brakes as well (although I can't believe they went back to that ridiculous single piston setup at rear), the steering is good not great but their best iteration yet I'd say, and the chassis is superb. That's my review. The looks of the car are subjective but don't work for me.

Fair play - you tried it firsthand. Too many folks are making assumptions about the way the car drives solely based on the spec sheet. Thank you for your impressions.

I love Bimmers but really can't get with this one, that's no reason to start telling people to GTFO from behind your keyboard...grow up.
Everyone here has had 100 M3s and 1000 BMWs.

But that doesn’t give anyone reason to troll car forums of cars they have no interest in. I’m not going to go cruising into the 6 series GT forum talking about how big of a POS it is.
Yeah. Make sure you don't criticize a BMW and only sing it's praises, especially on a BMW forum…

Lol.

Right? I thought I saw this, along with 450 other G80 related reviews on the FRONT page of this forum. I think it gives both supporters and detractors equal right to provide their opinion on every element of a vehicle being presented. Sorry if my opinion that it is the ugliest BMW in modern history, other than it's 3-4 series cousin hurts your feelings. I'm still going to state my opinion. The sensitive millennial cancel culture has pervaded this forum, how sad.
