Of course the M4 won't be as engaging. The Cayman isn't as comfortable. Choose what matters more.
I also found it really odd. A track oriented two seater vs a 4 seater... How many people DD their GT4s? Are you going to pick your gf/parents/etc up from the airport in one? Not likely

I'm waiting to see their results for the ZF8 because it would be interesting to see what they get

Many years ago I tried a 997 911 before buying my E92.

The 911 was a better tool for driving but not anywhere near as comfortable or useful each day. I never missed the 911 during M3 ownership.

Tell me about the Alfa, or the RS5 - how is it in relation to those? But I'm not cross shopping a GT4 with an M4.

So much of "this car vs. this car" gains or loses relevance based on individual usage. M4 vs. GT4 is mostly relevant for "second car (or third)" folk. RS5 vs M3 is a "I have one car" question.

I personally think the G80 looks better than the GT4....that's a big factor for me as well.

I interpreted the article using the Gt4 comparison in discussing solely steering feel/ feedback not the car itself...

It'd be nice if the steering feedback criticism stopped but they also inferred the gt4 is the holy grail of steering feel so it's hard to knock the bmw....

No hate here Just clarifying so we don't get 20 pages of "I don't cross shop the two cars"😀

Well, I hav read the Car and Driver test drive of the M4 G80 MT and was shocked by the star diagram that shows that the AMG 63 S with its V8 4 L greedy engine is the car with the best mpg among the M4, Cayman GT4, and Camaro and by a significant margin: 21 mpg for the AMG 63S vs 19 mpg for the M4 MT. Is it a joke or what ???? I cannot believe this.

Manual transmission in the G80 means it lacks a true overdrive gear. Higher revs, higher consumption.

Ever since the E9x, I don't know why they made 6th gear so close to 5th (for a street car at least). Actually, it felt the closest on the E92. Not the end of the world though.

Well at least every gear are usable i hate automatic cars that get their top speed in 6th gear when there are 2 more gears available.

I take their point that there may be too many settings and they could have just left a sparse few but at the end of the day, an enthusiast will fiddle about with the settings as much as we can to discern the tangible differences. Equally, we could leave the beast in a couple of settings for daily driving and twisty deserted road antics. The beauty about it is having them available to, as C&D themselves put it years ago, transform the car like a tiger cub, cuddly one minute and ferocious the next.
Do what you can to keep t he e92 M3. I came out of an e92M3 ZCP stick and bought a M4 comp DCT. I wont say I regret it, but if I had to put both side by side and have to choose which to drive away in, it would be the e92. F82 is exceptionally capable, esp on track (no one is paying me for lap times though), but you definitely lose the analog feel, which makes the e92 special. I guess it can be compared to wearing a rubber and not wearing one...

I traded my '18 A8 for the M4 Comp. At this altitude, it loses about 100hp. The M4 max torque hits at 2700 rpm and stays flat--with no loss of power at altitude. They rate it at 479--14 more than the C7, but dynos show ~ 495. At sea level, the C7 A8 was rated at 3.7 and 11.7. From most of the runs I've seen, the M4 Comp runs 3.6-3.7 and 11.6. Virtually no difference, with the M4 being ~ 500 pounds heavier. At 7000', the M4 would leave it for dead. Still a great car and miss it, but the M4 is helping me get over it...

Neither have I really, unless we consider the GT4 or 911 BMW's competition.

LOL at rubber. My friend envisioned me at 70 still cruising around in the car...now I can make it "70 and still raw dogging it"
