Tracks were open over here and travel restrictions within the EU were nonexistent with some ROM requirements depending on country of origin ie..between Italy and... Travelers from the U.S. were only allowed in Croatia and I believe Greece

Why did the M340i have a much better skidpad reading? PS4S with the same specs were on both the M340i and M440i.

You are saying “were”. Do you happen to know the current status? I’m only asking because I don’t know myself.

My guess: AWD vs RWD and 3,986lb vs 3,827lb for the M440iXdrive and M340i

Btw does this mean we should have to ask for bmw specific tires even when we go to mum and pop shops for tire replacement? Or will these tires only be available at dealers...
OE specific tires, star spec in BMW's case, are available for aftermarket purchase. When keeping the same brand and size of tire, it is always better to stick with the OE spec for the given vehicle. Be wary, even dealers are often not familiar with this, so you need to insist on the right spec.

Here's a great article on how specific tires are not all the same: https://motoiq.com/not-all-michelin-...ated-the-same/
This would have been an excellent point for my salesman at the BMW dealership to have made

What sizes is everyone going with for their aftermarket wheels for their G8X's??? 20's in front 21's in backs? 20's all around? I'm really hoping there aren't material benefits for staggering them, especially for the X Drive versions.

Thanks. This makes the most sense. That bronze metallic is super wow IMO.

Wait, are you saying there will be a non staggered option? I thought it would be staggered as always and my future build is 19/20's. Don't see the need for bigger wheels, leave 21's for SUV's, M5's etc. I may even consider 18/19's since I am going with the RWD model thereby regulating weight.

IMO the AWD will need the staggered wheels even more than the RWD to curb the understeer due to the even greater front weight bias and front wheel traction.

Thanks CanAutM3. Poorer reading on the M440iXdrive with only 159 lbs more despite its construction being "sportier" (wider and lower track). Seems like this is a substantial point to check between the G8X RWD vs G8X AWD. Does the G8X have the same AWD system as the M440iXDrive?

Just found this article https://www.motorbiscuit.com/the-202...s-car-letdown/ 53.8% front for the 4 series. Same for the G8X AWD?

"Although it is a rear-biased AWD system, it could still potentially upset the platform’s overall balance. Given that it is an M model, the M4 will likely receive other tweaks to counter any potential understeer." Not sure whether this will mean more weight or merely tuning. The G8X RWD engine bay is packed to the brim ... I know this is not being scientific.

Perhaps BMW will

For sure the G8X will fair better, ///M will work their magic.

“Does the G8X have the same AWD system as the M440iXDrive?”

The M-Xdrive Is based on the standard Xdrive system used in the M440iXdrive but it adds the M active differential and different software that allow the RWD mode. It’s the M5’s AWD system if you want to read up on it more.

Pretty huge, maybe too heavy? I would agree they would look sic!

I totally forgot that the 340 got the M differential. In that case the 440 probably has it as well and it could be that only software differentiates the G8X?

It's incredible how low my excitement level for the new M cars is.
The added weight and size, the design flaws with grille and missing Hofmeister, the unbelievably tacky M Performance Parts and BMWs marketing arrogance are really pushing me away from the current cars..
Sad.. 😔

Interesting point on the heat dissipation of the front tire. I recall in the Viper ACR Ring record years ago they had constant issues because the front tire has almost no sidewall.
My customers who own Viper ACRs say they get about 0.5 track days out of a set of those stock front tires but the handling & speed the car is capable of is so good that they stick with those tires for most track events.

I couldn't be more excited for all the same reasons you mentioned (excluding the marketing, which I don't really care about one way or the other).
