I noticed that the comments on youtube aren't 95% negative about the (front) design anymore, but it seems to be more like 50/50 negative/positive overall now. Did not do any scientific study, of course.

What is the obsession with the need for speed and fast and furious marketing strategy? Who the hell do they think they're branding to?

The 50% of positive commenters will definitely get 90% negative comments about it when they going to buy one

This. I'm not here to hate on the car itself but marketing strategy is a bit odd. It's like they are going for a younger crowd but forgetting that the MSRP is nearly $80k when optioned. Maybe they are hoping to catch those people that fell in love with F&F when they were younger when it first came out? But I feel like those people, like myself, have refined their taste over time and don't really respond well to this type of marketing. This type of racer boy F&F image is what has kept me away from certain cars in the past.

Then again, this is my take, and it's likely a bad take, as I can only speak for myself.

All that said, the last few seconds is 100% of the 6MT vs DCT threads on the F80 section lol.

Maybe the young YouTube crowd because most of the young people I know don't have 80k to drop on a car.

Or maybe targeted to the mid-life crisis guys/girls.

Not to beat the point to death but I loved the advertising from bmw even when I was a kid! Also I'll probably never go through a mid-life crisis bad enough to be swayed by this type of messaging!!

Theyre selling the brand as much as theyre selling this individual car in ad campaigns. Someone without the means could see this and look into a base 3 series.

As far as the demo for this car I would think theyre trying to snag some converts from the C63 / RS3 camps. C63 is going with a hybrid 4 cylinder and the RS3 gives you that nice awd understeer so theyre trying to set themselves apart as the fun rebellious cars for people that dont want to compromise on driving experience. I dont see what age has to do with watching cars drive through a shipyard anyway haha The chainsaw video was super weird though

Compare this dreck to the aircraft carrier drift commercial. I feel like driving like an absolute hoon in an exclusive environment (not an abandoned lot), while listening to classical music much more accurately describes the BMW driver. The fetishization of youth and image (screaming unshaven children like the other ad) over driving experience is doing a bang-up job of alienating the middle-aged, moderately wealthy demographic who actually buys these cars.

You and me. That little snippet (although meaningless and not influencing to my eventual purchase) represents the persona of the car and the hype about performance that appeals to a majority in this category. Personally I am the minority in this category (maybe like you) and hate videos like that making me not the right audience. And totally random I can't stand the fast and furious franchise! Too many M4s bastardized where I live. Too narcissistic for me.

These two cars are going to be the only manual cars on the market comparing them to their direct rivals. I will be getting a manual M3 when the hype comes down after the official release.

I wish the 8 series had a manual option.

they are clearly rebranding and targetting some other customer. M3 is not the M3 anymore but a completely different car. time will tell if it works for them but will lose many existing customers along the way. Keep in mind the board approved this strategy.
